The Rubans other games thread

The issue with 'your' proposal is that there is a high failure rate and if it's a big name over there then it's a high fee anyway (some of the SA to Spain transfers for example). Isn't it better to be almost sure (because even some high profile transfers fail) that winging it with a plethora of unproven SA youngsters?

Our scouting in general is pretty garbage, the number of exciting young south americans and africans out there and we end up with Arroyo and Allan....come on.

We've had more local lads who've been at the club from about 3 months old come through at a better rate than we have scouting top young talents.

No issue with Mac or what we paid for him, just going by BBC/Sky Sports sources saying there could well still be add ons involved.

The signings we made in the last 16 years were youth signings for the reserves, not once have they been included in the first team squad hence why I struggle to count them. Who the fuck are Pitaluga, Allan and Arroyo. I don't pay attention to the reserves team, no idea who they are. Make your name in the first team then we talk.

Maybe our scouts should be doing better to find the real talent instead of chasing around targets of other clubs.

Again… what are you arguing… that we shouldn’t try and sign youth players, but older players and focus on scraping whatever’s left in the barrel or should we give up winning things just to be a player farm?

We’ve got a shit record of signing players from South America and a great record of signing South American players from Europe.

You disparage Pitaluga, yet wang on about Danilo, who would be lucky to get on our bench, while tying up an overseas spot.

Again - what is it you want?

What are you actually asking for - less of a focus on locals and more of a focus on players from “far away”?

How are our scouts “pretty garbage” - who have we signed that’s been shite and underperformed?

What top teams would you point to that have loads of young players come through? - City are a farm, they’ve brought through one player in Foden and bought the rest, selling all their kids to desperately try and meet FFP.

Arsenal? Won fuck all?

Man Utd? Hahahahaha

Don’t even start with Chelsea - best scouts in the business and sign the most youngsters ever… and how are they doing?

Could we sign more exciting kids… yes… but they’re the sort of players that play for the reserve team you don’t watch or are interested in.

Think this was covered in a thread a few weeks back.

The problem, as I see it, is that the club is pretty tightfisted and aren't as ambitious as they could be on the footballing side of things (as perhaps they are on the commercial side).

We don't have a lot of money to play with and we more or less need every signing to hit so when it comes to buying talent from South America we leave it to others. The clubs at the top with deep pockets have their pick of the elite talents in the 20-60M bracket who have a much higher chance of success. Then you have all the 2nd tier clubs who largely work on a buy to develop and sell basis and play the percentages.

That being said, having a fucking great scouting system and a visionary sporting director will always help no matter who you are. It's repeated often but Alvarez for 20M would've been great for us.

Julian Alveraz - the City player?

We could sign players from Corofin National School at the age of 8, they'd cost next to fuck all and will save us 40-60M each in 15 years.

We're fucking idiots for not doing that

Yeah, he’s good.

There hasn’t really been that many players signed directly from South America that have been hugely successful - and those that have, have generally been signed by smaller teams to develop and flip.

Spurs get a red card just before half time away to Luton. Bissouma off with two yellow cards. 0-0 HT

Luton have been utter shite, a lack of technical control, terrible passing and zero creativity but Spurs no better (we should/would have battered these cunts) plus added woeful shooting (esp Maddison who must have had 4-5 shots). And then Bissouma gets himself sent off for diving (deservedly and the first yellow was 100% too).

Luton had a goal disallowed (deffo foul) but maybe, just maybe they can get something out of this match now. 11 vs 10 should even it out.

It's not a good tactic from Luton, they'd have had a better chance against Spurs if they went down to nine men themselves.

looks like they don't learn!
