so because not many teams have wide players capable of delivering double figures from a wide position we're okay to not have those players either. marvelous.

because I think a wide player who plays week in week out for us should be able to deliver double figures in the league. oh how our standards have dropped. it's no wonder we're shit scared of torres getting crocked.

And i asked you to look at the facts, those being that ONE player who plays out wide in the top 3 leagues in Europe acheived what you are saying we should expect. That player being Ribery (value 50m). If you want to include the other 4 who play some games wide who acheived it then lets do that Messi (value 80m) Ronaldo (value 80m) Henry (value 20m at 30 odd year old) and Kuyt OUR player.
So what im saying is, if you take the teams who won (fuck it lets say 5) the top leagues in Europe
Barcelona
Manchester
Marseille
Inter
Wolfsburg
only 2 of them have ONE 10+ wingers even if you ignore the fact that NONE of them are wingers.
In England none of the other 18 teams had one, in Italy not one team, in France none, in Germany ONE....
My point being wether you expect it or not is neither here nor there, there are next to no players in europe that will do it, certainly not that a club who havnt won the league in 20 years and have 350m of debt should 'expect' to be here.
Your utopian view of what is and is not acceptable from your players is borderline mental.
I believe the last team to win any of the top leagues in the whole of europe with TWO wingers getting 10+ league goals was Arsenal with Pires and Ljungberg a good 6 years ago, so surely the fact that leagues are being won time and again without this figure youve once again plucked out of your arse being relevant should show you that regardless of what you WANT, what we need to win the league is in all likelyhood totally different.

But anyway, I fully agree with your point. Spidey's talking balls. Again.

it's funny you mention pirez and ljungberg because it is those two I was thing of (and barnes and houghten). it's unlikely that we'll have two wide players who will score double figures in the league but that what we should aim for and that what I expect (perhaps foolishly). they have the platform of being shielded by the best defensive midfielder in the league and argubly one of the best playmakers in europe.

+1.

Though I will say that it shouldn't just be goals that are considered for a wide player. If Riera was getting 15-20 assists with 5 goals, then that'd be a fabulous return.
But, well, he's not.

you can say I have unfair expectations but how can you say I'm talking balls?
that's like saying I'm talking balls if I expect liverpool to win or at least challenge in every competition, it's an expectation not a statement of fact.

What is apparant from this is how lucky we are to have Dirk.
Im delighted to eat a huge fucking wodge of humble pie with regards to Deadly, its always nice being wrong when the thing your wrong about brings you joy.

In his first full season he was more miss than hit and has been through some rubbish runs of form, but i forgive him all that, and am delighted we kept him. Viva la Dirk.

I think it's fair to say if we had someone on the left who delivered what kuyt did on the right we would have won the league. I don't think it's unfair expectation to have.

Ha. I was looking through old threads a few weeks back, and wow - your opinion of Dirk back then was quite remarkabale. There was one particularly heated argument between you and I over his "merit" in the team or something. Quite funny looking back on it.

ha ha rafa has just spent 17 MILLION POUNDS on one. way to prove your point.

* didi hamann
I said hamann is a good player (about a million fucking times) but I said we needed someone who is more mobile (in comes masher) and someone who can shield the defense and offer more going in the opposite direction (in comes alonso).

I've expressed an OPINION that we should have wide players capable of delivering double figures in the league. big fucking whoop.

how about you ryan with your continual defense of the hapless lucas and wasn't it you who thought haden mullins was a good player (ha ha fucking HELL!!!).

Riera's an alright player who put in a good, if a little mixed, debut season, but we can and should be doing better, IMO, and I had hoped this shortcoming would be addressed this transfer window; however it looks like we're lacking the funds.

Im not scared of Torres getting crocked.

I fucking am :s

I'm not quite sure who's going to comfortably playing the lone striker role and scoring this season when Torres is out.

I think it's fair to say if we had someone on the left who delivered what kuyt did on the right we would have won the league. I don't think it's unfair expectation to have.

what's so funny? we fell short of the league by a mere 4 points. our regular left midfielder got 3 goals in the league, is not fair assume had he got closer to kuyt's 12 league goals it may have turned two of the draws into wins clinching the league, or is too much of a strecth?
yes, really funny.

Actually you're right, I got confused. Sorry.

Personally I believe that if we had a striker who scored 100 goals a season we would romp to the title.

Good stuff Oncy.

I concur. Allied to a goalkeeper who doesn't let in any goals, I firmly believe we'd be favourites to take the league. And is it too much to expect- IS IT? I jolly well think not!!

oh, fucking ha ha

has there ever been a striker who has scored 100 league goals in a single season? no.

has there ever been keeper who didn't let in a single league goal in a season? no.

has there ever been a team whose wide players both scored double figures in the league? yes there fucking well has been.
you guys make it sound like it's an impossibility.
