I'm always skeptical about this stuff.
I mean, what about the seasons where we finished in the top four and then compounded it by spunking millions on absolute shite? What happens then is the knock on effect. A shit season and then your best player(s) wants to leave. Alonso, Torres, Mascherano, Sterling, Suarez, Coutinho (maybe). We've lost and sold big name players because we've been our own worst enemies in the transfer market and on the pitch. They go for big money. I'm not sure that makes us an actual selling club buy choice, but more by self enforced fucking stupidity.
If we have a shit season this time and Coutinho goes and we make the net spend even more meager, who's fault is that? The owners? Or the fact we didn't buy what we needed (a defender or two), which might have given us a chance to change Coutinho's mind, through some actual smart spending resulting in success.
