The Mo Contract Saga

The out of his hands part was in regards to staying at the club for the rest of his career, not the new contract. Imho.

Frustrating to think we have the capability to juice our players yet Minamino & Neco are still built like pussies. Get on with it lads!

The physiques of those 2 are probably the best case we have that we aren't running a doping program. That and the fact that Keita and Thiago can't stay off the treatment table.

His agent has played a blinder here. They've put off and put off his contract. Now hes in the form of his life the club needs to tie him down and we will look like absolute amateurs if he goes. Every other star player we've lost in FSGs time forced their way out and the fans begrudgingly accepted it. Salah has said he wants to stay but be paid a wage in line with the best players in the league because that's what he is. If he goes FSG will look very cheap

Or, sell him for 150 to 200M to PSG and fund another round of terrific signings.

We are The most dependent of any of the big clubs on high priced transfers

We simply have to sell stars every now and again. Honestly, if you ask me, if we were going to keep him it would be done by now.

Yeah we could buy Pogba and Grealish that sort of cash. We'd be much better off with them

Is this really fair though?
We sold our best player a few years ago, and signed two players who took our team from being really good to great.
It's obviously better to keep Salah but if we cannot afford 400k/week (I don't know) for whatever reason, we won't necessarily sink as we did when we sold Suarez.

The problem is that we're replacing a goal scorer.
It's not just any winger.
We won't get the same production from Mane and Salah.
We might just have to replace Salah with two players. A winger and a striker.

I know it's a long shot - but if we were to sign Mbappe on a free and Bellingham, but we'd have to get rid of Salah, would we do it?
I think Salah should finish his career here - he's the kind of player who can score 20-40 goals a season till he's 35 ...

I think the key question is, what are we prepared to sacrifice to win now versus a good team for later. Generally, if we are a team whose ceiling is at max qualifying for CL, I would have said, sell Salah, build a team for the future. But right now, we have a team which can win the league atleast once more with Salah. Without Salah, I highly doubt we are there. I am also not sure, if we will see a team of this level in the near future. So pay him if we can afford him.

I'd love to have Mbappe, but he's right footed.
He'd replace Firmino or Mane.
I'd be looking at someone like Raphinha or Dybala.
Maybe even Chiesa, despite being right footed he's great playing on the right.

I'm more worried about goals ... if we can't settle on Salah, we need goals ... so if that's Mbappe, we figure out the RW and the formation afterward ...

That's what Man U did. Now they have Sancho and Pogba on the bench.

It's one of those where you bloody well find the money. He's on 200k, and by all accounts something around 350k would get it done. If we have to move 2-4 squaddies/kids on to pay him, then you do it. If you have to go and whore yourself to a few corporate entities for sponsorship then you do it. He isn't just pissing on other golden boot pretenders in the league, he isn't just in the running for the most prestigious player award in the world, he isn't just the Egyptian king and a messiah to a whole host of people in Africa and the muslim world, he is keeping all eyes in world football on us. Sort it, end of.

I think we need to make it look like a long and exceptional one off decision that we took after months of deliberation and doubt, which happened this one time and never again. If we simply paid him the monies gladly without a fight, soon afterwards every other motherfucker in the squad will suddenly up their game a bit and ask for a rise.
