The kids last night ... and their prospects for the future

Based on last night, do you see any of these kids have a future at Anfield?

Randall - I think he could be a very capable backup. Solid tackler, and it seems he's developing his attacking game.

Ilori - needs to bulk up, but I don't think he'll be with us much longer unfortunately.

Smith - I think we may have something here. Speed, decent read of the game, good crosser etc ... Worst happens, like Randall, a capable back up.

Cameron Brannagan - Looks like a really really smart player. Always making the right pass, smart movement etc ... It's tough to tell if he could be a premier league regular, but definitely part of the match day 18 in the future.

Kevin Stewart - Don't think he'll make it here. He's 23 and he needs to move on to get regular games.

Ibe - If he continues to work on his game, we have a great player on our hands.

Tex - He's a smarter, slower version of Coutinho. Makes good runs, rarely loses the ball, works his socks off ... I think he could contribute more than Milner or Lallana in the front 3 ...

Ojo - Seems very raw. Got pace, got skills and let's hope he works his socks off to make the most of his talent.

Ibe, deserves a start.

I'd put Tex either on the bench or in place of Lallana or Firmino.

Ojo, bench, give him half an hour against Norwich. If Ibe doesn't start then the introduction of those two should be a helluva problem for their defence late in with that pace.

I'm 100% sure Brannagan will make it at top level – meaning he will be a solid EPL player at the very least and maybe much more. When you see an 18-year-old with this kind of mature football brain, those kids usually don't get lost in the crowd. He just needs to bulk up a bit and he's ready to contribute.

I think Smith is also probably a solid EPL player, there is a chance he will stay as Moreno's back-up. The rest (obviously except Ibe and possibly Ojo and Chirivella, for whom it's just too early to tell) probably will not make it here.

Right now, I don't think Randall will make it with us, not because he isn't good enough, but because the guys in front of him are all still young, and of better quality. Unlike Smith, he doesn't have something right now in the other end of the pitch that he can offer differently (or better - pace and what looks like good crossing ability in Smith's case) as compared to Flanagan and Gomez.

Interesting how about 5 years after Flanagan and Robinson made their debuts, we've got Randall and Smith coming up as a pair just like them back then. I think Robinson was just as crazy as Flanagan in smashing people - even more reckless, actually. Robinson was faster and offered more on the attacking end back then too, and again, it was the LB who looked the more confident / cocky of the two. Maybe history repeats itself, or maybe the LB wins one round this time.

Brannagan I really like a lot, and I think if Allen leaves in the summer, he's someone who should definitely warrant some time in the rotation of CMs in league games.

Teixeira has a separate thread, he's good enough to have had a few more games under his belt by now especially given how we've not fired this season in the supply side. Milner, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino and Ibe have all had bad patches which really could have warranted Teixeira getting onto the pitch and playing a bit - the worst he could've done was play as badly as them in those games, surely. Anyway, I'm sure this is not a Pacheco case; if he leaves there should be interest in him from at least Championship clubs.

Bit harsh on Firmino. He's been decent lately.

Yeah, I'd prefer to see Lallana dropped simply cos Firmino is definitely improving.

For all that improvement he's still not adding much in terms of end result though.

However if he continues to improve then he soon could, so Lallana seems the more obvious cos I think this is about as good as he gets.

I thought everyone played pretty well. I suppose Texeira, Ojo, Brannagan, Smith and Ibe were the standouts. I think Ibe should be starting ahead of Lallana.

And it does seem as if, with the return of Flanagan and emergence of Smith, we now have two players for each full-back position.

Yeah he has flattered to deceive, but he got a couple against Arsenal and was very good at Stoke recently. Lallana has worked hard, but contributed very little end product. It'd be no harm to give Tex a run out in his place.

I don't rate Randall based on what I've seen.

Interesting to see Stewart in midfield but he's seemed to be here to make up the numbers from the get go so...

Texeira seems to be another Suso in that he's not lacking talent so there is clearly something else preventing him breaking through. Shame to see talent (appear to) go to waste.

I'm struggling with Ibe a little bit. He's clearly got a lot going for him but I just wonder whether he has enough craft to make it with us. Everyone else seems to rate the shit out of him though so maybe I'm missing something! Hope so.

Klopp sat down with Ibe at the start of this week and had a long talk to him about simplifying his game: taking fewer touches, crossing earlier, making quicker decisions and a few more tactical things. I think with the manager guiding him on he's well-placed to fulfil his potential, and, as I've always been a big fan of him, that's heartening.

Not in my house. Farmfoods sell a bag of 6 for £1 so I grab a pack every weekend when I'm in Crosby village. They're usually gone by the Wednesday between Bex & I.
I don't know what it's like in Liverpool, but you don't see them often in Belfast. If I'm home and see them I usually grab a few packets. My mum tries to send me some out whenever she can.

You don't find them many places, hence why Farmfoods stocking them at a decent price is well handy.

Our kids in midfield last night, whether they make it or not, have much more creative talent than our current 1st team.

I'm not sure about that. More than Can and Henderson? They were very neat and tidy, but I didn't see that much creativity. Or did you mean Tex and Ojo too? I'm talking about the CM pair.

Jesus played well, had a good game I thought..

If we are not going to play Tex we should look to play Allen

I've been very impressed by Smith and Texeira. They need more game time.

Was good to see Ibe look so threatening and gutted for him that he didn't get his goal, which he richly deserved. He needs to play with that confidence in the Premier League.

Great goal by Ojo so hopefully he'll keep developing

“I like Joao. As a person, as a footballer – But of course, players like him need matches, and if you can’t get it then you have to leave,” Klopp told his post-match press conference.
“This shouldn’t be my decision. You shouldn’t be a substitute for 3-4 years at this age. I would like to work longer with him, and in four months I’ve seen his jumps in development. He showed tonight he deserved a goal, he worked hard. It was man football he played. Defensively strong, good moments in the offence…
“We are always in talks, but we have to see what he wants, what we want – And in the end it has to fit. It’s not possible that all players stay here, so sometimes you have to leave. I’m not sure this is the situation for Joao. But you are right – he’s a long time now in this position [not in the side]. He did really well in the Championship but came back and wasn’t in the best position. Since I came back he’s a little bit closer, but we’ll have to see.”
