The Granuiad reckons Rooneh is leaving Old Toilet.

Perhaps it is just a way of Man U protecting his transfer fee?
Pure speculation I know but if he were to be sold at the end of the season, his fee would be now close to the £70m that was Ronaldo's transfer fee, as distinct from the £25m fee which was mentioned for a January transfer or the £5m it would have cost him to buy out his contract next summer.

That's certainly possible. Whatever happens, though, Rooney definitely comes out of it looking like a greedy, stupid prick.

Did he ever look any other way Bunny?

Ah well. Roy can sleep easy tonight. They wont need Torres now

Still can't believe the old cunt said that.

Fuck me a 5 year deal.. ?? after him coming out and saying the club lacks ambition?

Fergie must have threatened to dish more dirt on his seedy background, in order to get him to sign..

hearing that utd's bankers have authorised an obscene weekly transfer of ambition to wayne rooney's account over next 5 years.

Did anyone honestly expect otherwise?

Is rooney going to sit on a bench for the best part of 2 years or rot in their reserves, no.

Are Utd going to be happy losing one of their most valuable non-fixed assets, no.

There is only one reason why Fergie came out on tuesday and spoke and likewise the other players, it made Rooney's position at the club untenable if he refused to sign on the dotted line.

Like there was ever any doubt, he was just trying make sure he got top dollar.

Where else was he ever gonna go.

It's very odd. And as a negotiating tactic - if that's what it was - it's backfired spectacularly.

Am I the *only* person who thinks it wasn't all motivated by greed, and he did see the likes of Shitty being a new force, and had serious concerns about what the Glazer's have done to dent United's ambition?

He only voiced EXACTLY what those spastik fans in green and yellow have been talking about for the past couple of years.

Do you honestly think the Rooney would have the intelligence to think so deeply? He was led by his own greed and that of his agent, and although it may not have been managed is the best PR fashion, he will have got what he wanted, and will be forgotten by red green and yellow clad morons, as soon as he scores a few goals

I don't think so. But even if he was trying to put some pressure on the club about their ambitions, I think he always intended to stay, he just wanted to make them sweat a bit, which of course would also ensure he got the best possible deal he could.

This whole thing has been kept under wraps since August, I think the old man played the ultimate move when he decided to go public with the whole thing as openly as he did; as usually he just covers stuff and protects his players. That shocked Rooney, he said as much. But it worked, it made Rooney realise that if he did come down to it, they were willing to sell him. He quicky backtracked.

Or maybe it was those nutters outside his house threatening to kill him that done the trick.

Or Holloway.

He's got his contract. United will make a HUGE signing in one of the next two transfer windows.
[/quote]

Torres will probably be available if Roy is still in charge.

I agree. Which means he got exactly what he wanted, on both counts.

Very few would care if Roy is still in charge.

Where are they going to get the money for this HUGE signing though? And they need more than one to keep up with Chelsea and City. Giggs Scholes and VDS have to be replaced. Dont forget they had £80 mill from the sale of Ronaldo but it went to service their massive debt.

And secured the Glazers a little bit more

That's what I was thinking from the start.

Rooney worked himself into the ground last season carrying Utd and they still didn't win the league, despite his double 'Player of the Year' awards. He naturally wants some support this season from some new world class talent or he faces doing it all again in vain. But he didn't get any, and then this happens.

I think the surprise is really that it became so public.

Roy was probably hoping he would have to sell Torres, it would provide another excuse for him and help him to achieve his pathetically low expectations from everyone.

I agree. I don't think this situation differs that much from Stevie's first flirt with Chelsea.

Of course it is. Rooney has won title after title at Utd and they are still up there in terms of being able to win in the future.

Gerrard was going nowhere with Liverpool and nowhere fast. Other than the CL anomaly, we've done very little.

Yeah, my post was a bit shit.

I was referring to the psyche of the two players involved and their motivations, but the whole league title thing dilutes my point.

However I don't agree that Rooney shares your opinion on Man United's ability to win in the future.

I realise now that all I should have said on the matter was, "I agree".
