The final pre match thread - Burnley (h) Thursday

Also its rumours but it seems like Trent being made Captain in Midgetland and Salah's reaction has sent them both off the cliff. Thats the selfish streak we always worried about coming out....

Can't get excited about this game... The last four games (except the Man utd game, was have to take the point) we have been so poor and wasteful in the last third of the pitch that i can't really see it being any different here. But I hope I am wrong, but I can't see it

The absence of fans has allowed crap teams to defend even at home. If they had fans there they'd get dog's abuse, but in the silence they can keep that going all match. That's one of the many things in recent months that has made football pretty much unbearable. Sean 'Honey Monster' Dyche must be in his element. We all know how he'll turn up and play and it already fills me with inertia.

Maybe Alisson should start spraying the long passes around in VVD's absence. We need some kind of variety at the back when starting attacks. He knows Salah's movement better than anyone else in the team, so if anyone can get the suddenly over-talkative fecker back in form it's him.

Yep.

I've been saying this for a while, normally the fans push their team to attack & even the most defensive side gives in to that occasionally, or hears the groans as they pass backwards yet again & makes a riskier pass the next time.

As it is they get to sit back & defend for the entire 90.

It's a limited managers wet dream.

Trent and Bobby out surely. Taki and Williams in. Salah is in, only just; he can't be any worse than Origi.

I have also given up on Ox and Keita.

Scored 5 penalties and the whole team is designed to allow him( and Mane) to score bucket loads. He has been mostly shit for a month or so. Firmino and Mane have defensive responsibilities, Salah doesn't really. Firmino joins the link play.

Crystal Palace was with Taki working for Firmino and Salah on the bench.... its really not as simple as just dropping Firmino.
You can say the same thing for Kane, Vardy etc.

Need Milner for this one I reckon. Experienced head to pull us through.
Can't be arsed seeing Firmino anywhere near the starting 11.

To be fair, Salah did voice his displeasure over not being made captain that game
And Klopp mentioned that maybe he had made a mistake.... There is something behind it... IMO Salah wasn`t showing for Trent with the normal endeavor when Trent had to be pulled against Southampton.

Yes he did. But this is a month down the road and the suggestion is that they are still feuding and it's affecting their games. Ludicrous.

A month down the road where we've been consistently below par

Personally, I think Salah has taken a bit of confidence hit because of it, and Trent's suffering from long covid

There's data circulating regarding the impact of covid upon sporting people, particular elite level athletes losing lung capacity in the weeks and months after Covid, it's more than a plausible answer to so many good footballers in the league looking out of form/perma shagged in the past few months.

Defo. There's nothing you can do about that however, apart from rotate more effectively, which klopp is refusing to do.

Taki or shaq should start for salah next game. I'd prefer taki

Yeah but as I think it was Doc said yesterday - if that was the case our doctor would know. Weren't there two lads at Newcastle with long Covid? Not even in the squad for months?

Oh yeah for sure, the thing is, the club any any high level sporting insitute can test for that sort of thing easily and I imagine regularly does so, so it does beg the question why more isn't being done.

Or they have. And it's not an issue for our lads.

[article]Joel Matip could come into contention for Thursday’s Anfield tie with Burnley, but Diogo Jota remains ‘a few weeks away’ from a return, Jürgen Klopp confirmed.

Jota’s rehabilitation from a knee issue is likely to continue into February.

FFS - Klopp said he made a mistake and it should have been Divock who was captain .. so, imagine what that would have done to Salah!!!!
