In an 'all premier league XI' I can't think of a single Liverpool player who'd get in. Maybe Coutinho on the bench.

It's a miracle to me that we are in 4th given the lack of star quality we have.

Matip. Milner. Clyne. Hendo. Lallana. Firmino. Coutinho. Mane.

I think many are being a little harsh on the current squad due to their current form. Hendo and Lallana have been great up until the recent dip. Milner isn't our long term LB future, but he's doing a good job at LB and will probably be there next season.

This post wins.

Considering Milner's age & how long it would take to build the rest of the side, that means we have four players who are good enough long term. FOUR.

Fuck me.

However, that's opposed by the fact that even most title winning sides will have one or two players in who never stand out much or seem that good, I'm sure that means we could let at least one position skate with a slightly below par player.

Even taking that into account though, we're a long way from serious success.

Ouch!

Can't argue with it, but ouch anyway

It is Clear that the Central Mids and potentially the Central defence need more class. However, the CD's will look better when Matip is settled and back in form. It really is the CM that worries me most. Can and Gini have played well for periods of time separately, but none of them have gone in and put their marks on games were it really was dependant that they led by example. Hendo is a bit on and off. A little worried about that. He can be clm and boss games, and then he can also go missing when we really need the CM's to keep the pace and accuracy in passing at a higher Level. I feel comfortable that Klopp and his guys are using the spring to see who we will carry on over the summer when we need a bigger squad, and who we let go.

--------------- ?
Clyne --- ? --- ? --- Milner
----- ? --- Hendo --- ?
Mane ------------ Coutinho
-------------- ?

A lot of question marks unfortunately and their placement is inline with what we've seen on the pitch - really weak and lacking in leadership in the middle of the pitch and missing a killer instinct up front.

We do have a lot of good players that can step in such as Firmino and Lallana so it's not all doom and gloom but we need to add three or four players in key positions that can be counted on week in, week out over the course of a season.

Matip?

The jury for me at least is still out on Matip. After a great start he has had some rough patches with injury and poor form as well.

He might very well be one for now and the future, a real leader in defense but it's too early to say still.

Yep. I only hope and pray that he is actually as good as many have already decided he is after 10 games. Could save us a lot of money

Has he shown poor form? He wasn't great against Swansea but that's one game. Plus he was back after injury.

Or to put it another way, a rather more optimistic viewpoint would be 7 points off the top if we win tomorrow. Hmm not so far then 😉

We're not miles off. No team is the league is perfectly balanced. Yes they have more resources etc but they still make tonnes of mistakes. You only need to look at English sides regular failures in the champions league to see the league is nowhere near as strong as it used to be which is to our advantage at the moment. We need some strong transfer windows and Klopp to wise up tactically.
