Mane is expected to reach his £40m valuation. Mini might go for £20m ish, and there's talk of Ox going for £10m. Dias was a £36m spend, so I wonder how much is left n the kitty?

If we sell Williams and Phillips you'd like to think we should get £90m or so in total. So you'd HOPE we could stretch to £50m or so for a midfielder, but who knows with our owners.

Neco Williams has been ballin' for Wales so we should be able to get around £18-22 mill for him.
I mean that's what we'd have to pay if we were going to sign him.
Edit: with incentives. So something like 12-14 mill upfront.

Gomez is not ousting Konate short term, and he's relying on matip and Virgil declining dramatically long term.

I think we need to be realistic over him. If nat is happy as 4th choice and Gomez isn't; you'd have to sell

He's 4th choice.. I like the player when fit, but if someone offers us £40m+ plus add ons for appearances. We'd be mad to turn it down.
Do we have a ready made replacement for Gomez? That's my only issue.
Sure there's Philips, but Klopp doesn't rate him and he's painfully slow.
Then there's Koumetio and Van den Berg.

Depends if we can tie him down to a new deal IMO.

Matip and VVD are both over 30 now. It's not impossible that Gomez could still have a role to play. It's not like he's solidly 4th choice, either. It's pretty marginal between him, Matip and Konate. It was only a couple of years ago that he was a regular starter.

From the 'quota' point of view, it will be Phillips short term if Gomez goes, I don't know when VdB qualifies as home grown.

Phillips isn't remotely good enough and Koumetio looks shit to me. VDB has apparently done really well at Preston but it's a hell of a leap from there to our first team.

There are many problems with Gomez. First of all he isn't very good. That might be because of his injuries but that's also a significant problem. Then there's the fact that he let a little cockwart like Sterling beat him up. He's a fanny. I don't know where these 40 million figures keep coming from but I'd take half that.

English premium.

I quite like him, but I'm certainly in the camp of sell at the right price. Especially if he won't commit to a new contract.

I dont get the talk of Phillips going on loan again. He was heroic with his head but not got the speed or technical ability for our style. Virgil, Konate, Matip, Gomez leaves one more slot. I'd have Sepp Van Den Berg personally.

If we do not need Gomez to cover right back (IF), I would sell Gomez and keep Nat. I think he is currently better and not at all injury prone. And…his technical ability was not bad at all, once he grew in confidence. He played some lovely stuff against Madrid last year.

Related - Conor Bradley was instantly the best player on the pitch when he entered in the 75th for NI and 2 goals down. He could well come good or make a nifty sale.

I'm not ready to give up on Gomez yet.
He's fast (Konate fast), a very good CB and able to play RB to a high standard too.

Unless we are sure v.d.Berg and Phillips can cover him at CB, and that we are definitely buying Ramsey as RB cover, then we can't let Gomez & Neco go in the same window.

I still hold out some hope for him but you'd think he'd have been included more if the coaching staff thought so too. And that was for NI against Cyprus FFS, that's about 3 leagues down from our 1st Team level!

Very fair point, but still encouraging.

I think maybe I just feel sorry for him. He hasn't had much luck. And I thought he was great when he had that run for us in the first team. I can see that it's a problem though, because Konate looks fantastic and VVD isn't going anywhere for a good 5 years (thank god).

Van den Berg is the interesting one for me. He played RB a lot for Preston and looked much quicker than I remember. Their fans absolutely rave about him. Maybe we've got something there. Maaaaybe.

I think if there was much hope for Bradley we wouldn't be signing Ramsay, who's exactly the same age.

I think we can be pretty sure that Phillips can be CB cover, given he has done it before.

The right back thing is an issue though, agreed. As things stand we are low on right back cover.

It can't be a great prospect for Gomez in considering his future though. 4th choice CB and second choice RB.

I don't rate Phillips at all but would he even WANT to be 4th choice, making about 3 league appearances a year? He's not even young, I think he's about 25 now. He'd be better off just going to Bournemouth or wherever.

You want someone either really young or really old for that role, really. A Ragnar Klavan type...

Logically you are right, but some players don’t seem to mind. I mean, I get the impression that Origi was very happy as back up. And Phillips did sign a new deal not too long ago.

After the last few seasons the only thing you can safely say about the center back pecking order is that Virgil is number one. Gomez will get his chance again if he stays
