The Central Midfield Conundrum

So with the imminent arrival of Woy as manager and the inevitable departure of Masher what are your thoughts on our central midfield for the coming season?

If Lucas leaves and as mediocre as he is, it leaves us with an even bigger gaping hole in our midfield. So, who do you think Woy will bring in and where will he play Stevie?

Personally I cant see him breaking up arguably the most potent attacking pair in the leauge in Gerrard and Torres (when fit and on fire). So that leaves potentially two central positions to be filled. I wouldn't be totally against someone like Scott Parker being brought in as a holding Mid. I thought he had a good season for west ham (as bas as they were). Not sure who would be a good option to play alongside Parker though, maybe Aquilani could turn into the player we all know he can be under Woy. I still think his best position is behind the striker though.

Thoughts?

I like that.

So do I. Trouble is the Hammers have said Parker's the one player they won't sell.

Facking Cants.

I'd love to get somebody like Scheinsteiger in. Can't imagine he would be too cheap with the world cup he's having and also the fact he's just played in a champions league final. To be honest I don't know why Rafa didn't go after him last year instead of Aqua. He would have been a perfect replacement for Alonso.

Trouble is, ignoring the fact we won't get Parker, that stevie & aqua will both push up too much.

I'd love to see it working, but I doubt it would do.

I never really watched much of Fulham, what was there formation under Woy?

We have Maxi too, and Pacheco is seriously knocking on the door.
I don't think any of them are anything of the sort. In an ideal world I'd want better than Lucas, but what are you going to ask him to do in that role? Break up play and pass it simple. He can do that perfectly well. And I know you hate aquilani but your opinion of him doesn't in any way marry up with fact. He played a handful of games all season and got 2 goals and a bunch of assists. Rafa admitted it was he who held him back and not the player and almost everytime he played he did something positive.

Aquilani is an injury-prone spineless shithouse who is utterly unsuited to the Premiership. And yet you want to push Gerrard back to accommodate him playing behind Torres? Where are the goals going to come from? Aquilani will have flu more often than he scores a goal.

As for Lucas, well, any team with that cunt playing in it will never win a trophy, because he's just shit, regardless of what fucking task you give him.

That's what we've got.

If anything, given the state of our finances, and playing along with your assessment of them as 'fucking shit', a truer statement would be:

"You can't not have two of the three midfield places taken up by fucking shit players"

Our best bets in holding onto Gerrard, Mascherano and Torres is their options being limited. Inter have said they can't meet the asking price for Mascherano, and Barca are more interested in getting Fabregas. Where's Macherano gonna player? He won't get in ahead of Sergio Buesquets (I have no idea how to spell his name), so he might as well stay put.

Similarly, where exactly will Madrid fit Gerrard in?
Yes. Because Gerrard can play in centre midfield and Aquilani can't. So given that it's all we've got yes that's what I'd do.

It's the best I could do with the squad at present. I doubt we'll be able to afford many players to improve it either.

You might be a massive fucking zlatan, zlatan, but that is FAR more what I had in mind.

Certainly we must replace Masher and Insewer.

Ideally I'd fuck off the the Shithouse too, and bring in some more striking options, but LB and DM are the priorities.

I'd prefer to buy a defensive midfielder
Agreed. He's effective when he joins the attack too.
That's what really impressed me. He was very solid defensively but he seemed to make excellent runs in every game - including a very good goal against Slovenia.

He'd still be reasonably cheap and he's, imo, a player who could really improve in our setup.
