Surprised We Lost Eh?

I expected this post ...

Am I surprised we lost? Nope, the 1st half was the most pathetic display I've seen from a Liverpool squad in a long time. You can say 'Fiorentina this', 'Fioretina did that' - bullshit. We made them look good because we didn't come to play. Heck, you could have put Milan and they probably would have got a goal against us too. Fact is, the 2nd half showed the gulf in class. Yes we didn't score, but we dominated them and the only breaks they got were because we were pushing up the field. Fioretina are a good team with some very gifted players. I thought your Montolivo was anonymous - but the people who most of us 'knew' - ie Vargas, Jovetic, Frey - were as good as advertised.

And with regards to your 'love' of Serie A. I think it's a wee bit over the top. Out of the 'Big 3' leagues, it's the weakest. Notice how the 'biggest stars' in Europe moved to Spain and England (Bar Eto'o me thinks). It's a good league nonetheless but not up there with La Liga and the EPL. Oh, and Whad is right. There won't be one Serie A team in the semis this year ... That says enough.

I agree with that... it is the lesser of the big 3.

As for my 'love' of Serie A... like I said many times, I'm just taking the mickey with some of the things I've said ... admittedly I do it too often, so I can see how it drives most of you guys nuts.

I'll tone it down.

And seek the wrath of SCM.com?

Nah. I will choose the harmonious option 😉

I don't have an issue with you talking a lot about Serie A - I actually enjoy reading your stuff tbh. It's just this post was a bit careless as most I assume all of us are Liverpool 1st and then whatever. It's like me - I'm a big Milan fan. But come those cup finals, I only wanted one outcome.

I am a bit disappointed with Montolivo though - I thought he'd be better going by how you rated him.

I think it was largely down to the fact that it came on the night and the way it was written, it came acrosss as a "in your face Liverpool fans" type post.

No need to tone down the Serie A love... I like LTW enjoy hearing about other leagues. Posting that last night was kinda asking for a bit of stick though.
Yep me too. Plus Paddy was plastered. And i need someone else to stick up for Serie A with me.........you do understand that if Roma ever beat Liverpool i wouldnt say shit though right?

I never watched the match I was stuck in bastard traffic on the A14 on the way back from Cambridge, but from the radio, it sounded like the Fiora defo deserved to win and Rafa got it wrong? It also sounded like Lucas was bollocks? (No doubt ryan will dispute this as per fucking usual). No idea when he put Aurelio in midfield when Gerrard could have gone there, or is that a bit too much to ask for golden boy?

It's a bit worrying that the two half decent teams we've played this season we've lost to (spurs being the other one). But I'd expect a much improved performance for Chelski.

I do agree that his potential is not really building itself into the real thing... but he is not being played his natural position at the same time.

And I think with Jovetic hitting a purple patch in regards to form, he is able to take the back seat and just do the simple things - EG: receive the ball from the defence and feed the in-from player.

And with Felipe Melo lost to Juventus, there's more burden on his defensive side to the game.

And they have Comotto and Vargas flying up and down the wings... so the defense does need some cover from a midfielder to protect them from the counter.

Could be different story though had Andrea Della Valle (former President of Viola) invested in a defensive midfielder from the funds obtained from offloading Melo and Kuzmanovic... although they did pursue Benfica's Luisao for a long time but were unable to sign him.

To be honest I totally forgot about the game until the second half. Kinda says it all.

I am surprised we lost, though. But then I was also surprised by the team we selected.

Like Ryan says, we shouldn't be bothered about it. We're good enough to qualify for the next round with aplomb.

No need to tone down the INFO on the Serie A - I like many others I suspect enjoy reading about players we don't get to see too often.

However you might want to work on your timing & delivery. If you were a stand up comic then you would never work again.

Everyone's a bit tetchy on here at the moment eh? There's nothing to get wound up about imo with Roopy's post. The Italian league is most probably (on last nights evidence) better than most believe and Fiorentina gave us a footballing lesson in the first half last night. Moreover, the players he's recently highlighted vindicated his praise last night.

We were well beaten by the better team on the night and would do well to accept it, learn from it, and move on.

You missed off the comma. I presume you intended;

Fuck off Serie A, lover.

Love you too, Ken.

Serie A is rubbish eh? Italian clubs play slow football eh? We could hardly breathe at half time.
Not rubbish, CORRUPT.

Whatever happened with the match-fixing allegations in Spain after a player came out and said he'd been paid to help throw a game. That seemed to get buried.

Bilbao were involved in something (don't know if it was the same thing) though that seems to have disappeared too.
I think that was a similar incident a couple years ago.

La Liga is corrupt as fuck.

What happened with Calderon and the election fraud, embezzlement allegations?

A few things about Milan that are standing out:

1) Ronaldinho will never be the player Milan hope he'd be. Yes, he can still score a goal here or there - and make some lovely passes but he just cannot lead a team anymore. Milan built their season on this player and that's the reason they'll fail unfortunately.

2) Milan cannot score. There's little to no service to Pato, Huntelaar or Pippo.

3) Leonardo was the wrong choice ... A task this size needed a proper head coach, not a rookie.

4) Hopefully they have some kids in their reserves to at least blood in.

They looked at what happened at Barca with Guardiola and just crossed their fingers.

Yah but you can't really do that with 10 40 year olds and Pato.
