we have lost 3 games this season, unbelievable

if we lose another 3 we wont have much to play for

if we lose to lyon we may not get out of the group.

The thing is, during the game I was feeling much the same, but after I was a bit angry. Chelsea game means far more.

Usually, well in the past, I'd be looking for answers after a loss like this.

But we do the job in Europe, so not going to overreact to this loss.

Lets see where we are at after match day 3.
I texted my mate Dave during the game to say, i just couldnt get up for it. The nature of the group format has ruined the spectacle of European football. Its shit till the knockouts. You know all the big teams will do enough to get there in the end so this group shit is just tedious.

HaHa.

I went back to bed at half-time and got a ride from the missus too.

Who gives a fuck about football?

It genuinely is. I said to one of the lads that it don't matter as we will qualify anyway.
But at the end of the day a win would have been nice taking us in to the Chelsea game.

I told her she was a jinx and she apologised for it. Sadly my luck didnt improve as the night went on either.
I disagree. We wont be taking Chelsea for granted now. If we'd gone in with 7 wins on the spin who knows where our heads'd be at. I think this is a good thing for our league game.

Revolves around the EPL, if Serie A is so good why have we comfortably beaten Inter in the past who dominate that league?

Suppose your right Andy. Might inspire a bit of a reaction. Leave Chelsea not knowing what they are really facing in terms of mentality,
Just hope Aurelio isn't in midfield again.

Skrtel
Johnson
Mascherano
Lucas
Gerrard
Riera

Good to see you've changed your mind on Yossi.

I could actually see Gerrard in CM for this one. He has in the past been a bit isolated against Chelsea away when played behind Torres. I would like someone well experienced in there against Lampard, Ballack and Essien, going forward. I think Benayoun should take that role to begin with. See how it goes. I would like midfield to be pretty solid for the first half, and if changes are necessary then make them after half time.

I'd be stunned if Benayoun started.

Maybe so Ryan...
But what do you think is the best starting line up? Andy's team?
Yup, it's the team I put forward a few days ago. You could argue the toss over Aurelio replacing insua, but that's it.

I'll explain why that's the team needed in detail later, gotta go into a conference call now.

"Conference Call"

Anyways, I'd probably agree in the long run, but Lucas and Mascherano need to have fucking great games. I don't think they both will, hence why I want Gerrard in there.

I'm not that surprised we lost though I'd stop a long way short of suggesting Serie A is anything close to the standard in the EPL; unless there has been an amazing change this season.

I must admit I've been absolutely buried in a couple of projects and have only managed to catch 3 games - the Spurs game really underlined my misgivings about our transfer period early on.

All that said I'm not surprised we lost because our defence, to my thinking, is not up to the challenge of a genuinely good team with a cutting edge. Carra has been and always will be a Liverpool legend but he's struggled immensely in the games I've seen this season, culminating in the West Ham match which was one of the worst I've seen from him.

I've always felt that you need either a water tight defence from which to build an effective attack or a breath takingly terrifying front line which leaves the defence with little to cope with. At the moment, if I'm honest, I don't think we really have either.

The weekend should really demonstrate where we are and what we can do this season. I'm desperately hopeful that this is the season but not quite as confident.

Roopy, quick question....

How many Italian teams will be in the semi-finals?

I've got none. You?

Besiktas beat us a few years back too... Didn't notice the Turkish teams take over the competition.

I know I haven't. I was far more interested in the reserves match and Agger's return to action.

So fuck up.

It has the air to one of those weeks doesn't it?

Plus Chelsea aren't exactly setting the world alight either.

Take out lucas for Gerrard and Yossi slipping into the hole and it would be perfect.
