As much as this performance infuriated me from an LFC fan perspective.... the result at least will shut up some of those tools who think the footballing world revolves around the good old EP fookin L (that includes one or two ppl on here, and elsewhere).

Serie A is rubbish eh? Italian clubs play slow football eh? We could hardly breathe at half time.

We were torn apart by Fiorentina, especially first half.... ran around like lost little boys.

I predicted it on RAWK that if Rafa starts Aurelio in central midfield - he's given Jovetic the license to destroy us ... and that's pretty much what happened. No one could track his runs - he was just too good (cha ching $$$$ for Viola).

That first half ... show it to your kids over and over, because from a team perspective - Viola did almost nothing wrong.
 
Oh come on, Fio played well. But our own shortcomings contributed to their effectiveness. A midfield with ANY backbone at all might have performed better than us in that first half. When we actually pulled our fingers out in the second half, it was a different story. The 2 goal cushion allowed them to do fuck all but sit deep with 10 behind the ball.
No one thinks the football world revolves around the Prem, but I guarantee Italy or Germany will not have a team in the semis. Whereas England will have at least 2. Results like this are long forgotten. But if it was a semifinal, then that is a different story.

To be fair Roopy did get some stick for raving much about the Italians before this. Yeah we're all dissapointed but I'd rather lose this one rather than this weekend!
 
Why? Are the Italian teams ripping through the rest of Europe? Or is the Italian league now the best thing since sliced bread because of a 2-0 defeat of Liverpool?
 
Don't get me wrong, fucking infuriated with our performance.

But satisfaction? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling a little vindicated in that I have been saying how good Viola are as a team for a long time now, and also that Serie A is a much better league that some people are giving it credit for.

I been mentioning the names of Jovetic, Vargas and Montolivo for quite a while now - and I am in a sense glad they performed well, and were able to step up against the likes of Stevie G and co.

Chill mate - I take no satisfaction from the loss ... I did well in not smashing in the TV after the first 45 mins.

And yeah I still rate EPL higher than Serie A - but I don't see massive daylight between the two leagues.

And mate I am Liverpool fan through and through... just because I like to discuss other teams, from other leagues as much as I talk about my own team is my own choice - if I choose to praise other clubs for having good players and performing well that's my own choice. I love the world game.

The last month had been so good but now it reads played 3 decent teams lost comfortably to 3 decent teams.

I'm really worried about SB and our defence.

this weekend will tell us if the defeats were coincidence or we really are only playing well against the technically poorer teams.

I can't recall the last time our defense has been this fragile.

Not feeling any confidence from our centre backs.

Far too much space and time is being given.

The last time we played them we won and in the CL we scored 4.

We just need the correct set up with protection for the back four and Torres to be on fire.
 
This reminds me of Spidey's "in your motherfucking face" posts after Babel's performance the other week. The only difference is that Spidey's were good natured.

Yeah, Serie A has come under a bit of fire, but deservedly so. Yeah, it's been called shit, but it's all relatively speaking. I am sure that all would admit that there are plenty of good players to be found in that league... as well as good teams (on their day).

The fact is though that bar the one last push that Milan side gave in 2007, Italian sides on the whole have been made to look distinctly inferior to the top 4 in England and Barca in the last couple of years.

Our first half was largely rubbish, due to us being sloppy, careless in posession, not tracking runners, diving in early, being caught out of position, and playing as lacklustre a 45 mins as I've seen in quite some time.

If we'd bothered at all, we'd have fucking humped Fiorentina all over the pitch. We were shit. Firorentina are just better than average.

Honestly, sorry if it came across that way - was not the way I intended it to.

As you know, I've talked up some of those players for a while now - I've put it on the line with some of the things I've said.

And so when those players do a good job against us, who according to some Uefa ranking we are the best team in Europe ... then it gives me vindication in making those statements.

Now I want LFC to win every single game we play make no mistake about that. But tonight the fact is we didn't win and we didn't play well ... because the opposition were superb tonight. And I'm sorry if praising the opposition for their performance upsets some people, and if it comes across as being smug (well like I said, that is not my intention).

I'd love nothing more for us to do Viola at Anfield like we did to Besiktas.

Whenever we did get the ball, we were able to retain it by passing it along our defence... but once we dared playing a forward pass, Viola closed us down immediately - we couldn't string passes together because they pressed us.

They bought a physical game and a fast game - something which our players were not expecting.

And yup we were not tracking their runners.... players were too busy chasing the ball than to notice anything that was happening behind them.
 
Fiorentina rested 6 guys for this game. They were geared, all there fans were whistling every time we got the ball. And Were Very Good
I think Babel has proven he needs to start just not against Chelsea - still worry its against tired leg syndrome.

Riera is a cert.
Carra is gonna get mauled at Chelsea or click into form. I know which one sounds the smarter bet.
We got no calls today. They got quite a few. Maybe it looked like we were going down easy, but I don't think any of our players would do that all game.

I had the most annoying commentator ever. Obviously hated Liverpool no doubt about it.

Gerrard/Masch partnership in midfield won't happen, but it should. Hope Gerrard plays in midfield.

Lastly the one positive I got from tonight was we were somewhat solid in the air defensively. Only one mistake and even that was a hard play and thus the mistake.

Ah it's all good no bother.

I'd have unleashed the verbal volley about our performance but refrained from using the internet for 2 hours after the game ended.

Now if I seriously wanted to be smug about this, I'd have hopped on soon as the final whistle went.

All good champ.
