Sunderland.

Alberto should play. We need someone in midfield to create chances, and it's not gonna be Moses or aspas

I think it's dangerous to underestimate Sunderland. Teams often seem to win the game immediately after changing managers, particularly the ones who the players can't wait to get rid of. Maybe Binny can provide some stats to back this up/disprove this theory?

Not really up to date though

So in the Premier League, at least, there is a boost for a short honeymoon period and then performance dips back – and indeed slightly below the level that it was before the club changed manager. Between 12 and 18 games after appointment, the points’ benefit of changing manager has vanished, suggesting that on average there is only a short-term gain and a longer-term negative effect of changing manager.[/article]

According to Dutch economist Dr Bas ter Weel:"Changing a manager during a crisis in the season does improve the results in the short term," he says. "But this is a misleading statistic because not changing the manager would have had the same result."

Ter Weel analysed managerial turnover across 18 seasons (1986-2004) of the Dutch premier division, the Eredivisie. As well as looking at what happened to teams who sacked their manager when the going got tough, he looked at those who had faced a similar slump in form but who stood by their boss to ride out the crisis.

He found that both groups faced a similar pattern of declines and improvements in form.

While Ter Weel's research focused on Dutch football, he argues that this finding is not specific to the Netherlands. Major football leagues in Europe, including England, Germany, Italy and Spain also bore out the same conclusion - teams suffering an uncharacteristic slump in form will bounce back and return to their normal long-term position in the league, regardless of whether they replace their manager or not.[/article]

Oops.. Rosco is going to love that !

This game is so important now. A win sets us up at the top of the table with Spurs and probably Arsenal.

Must win game.

What would you say if you were Rodgers to try and motivate the team for this? Anything special? more envelopes?

I hope the players, Gerrard especially, are right up for this and treating it like a big match. There are no excuses, it's not March or December when we're looking at the table ruing missed chances or our early season form. We need to batter Sunderland and march on if we want to see champions league football next year.

Yes, a big part of the manager's role is to motivate the troops, but if simply showing the current table standings to the team, and pointing out that 3 points at the Stadium of Light keeps us close to the top pack isn't enough motivation for some players, then it's the players themselves.

We must win this game - it's a must win. The league this year is WIDE OPEN and this is precisely the time we need to make a push ... This is precisely what Rafa did with Valencia - the big boys had struggles, and his teams pounced.

Exactly, and what usually happens when we have to or are supposed to win a game?
Yeah, I think we'll win but I'm fucking bricking it.

Rumoured that its an unchanged team for tomorrow.

Happy with that if true. We looked pretty good in the 2nd half imho.

We need a win big time now.
Two defeats and a draw is dire form.
And for all of our joy at the start to our season.....

2013/14 - First 5 games - 10 Points
2012/13 - Equivalent games - 8 Points

and out of the Carling cup in the second game both years.

Last year we drew 1-1 at Sunderland.

Have faith dude. We've had a blip is all and have a world class talent back in the squad. We will smash them tomorrow. Mark my words.

I think we're maturing as a side to win this one. The southampton game would have given us a good kick in the arse. I expect this to be an important character building win.

Should Moses be guaranteed a start?

I did miss the Swansea game in which he apparently played well and scored but in the both the Southampton and Utd games he didn't look up to much.

He's stronger than Sterling / Aspas and can hold his own more, but his first touch looks heavy and by the time he decides to do something the moment has often passed. Early days as it's a new team for him and what not but perhaps one of the other boys should be in with an equal chance to play.

Yes he starts for want of a better option.
