We need a win big time now.
Two defeats and a draw is dire form.
And for all of our joy at the start to our season.....

2013/14 - First 5 games - 10 Points
2012/13 - Equivalent games - 8 Points

and out of the Carling cup in the second game both years.

Last year we drew 1-1 at Sunderland.

I don't suppose Allen or Kelly would be fit enough to start? Allen wasn't even on the bench last night was he? I'd ideally like to drop Gerrard for this game but with Coutinho out do we have the numbers in midfield?

I think all being equal (knowing that Johnson and Coutinho definately wont make it) my team would be
---------------------------------------Mignolet---------------------------------------
Toure---------------Skrtel--------------------------Agger---------------Enrique
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------Lucas------------------------------------------
------------------------Henderson------------Allen---------------------------------
Suarez------------------------------------------------------------------------Moses
----------------------------------------Sturridge--------------------------------------

Failing that this:

--------------------------------------Mignolet----------------------------------------
Toure------------Skrtel-------------------------------Agger--------------Enrique
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------Henderson--------------Allen--------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------Moses-----------------------Suarez-------------------Alberto-------------
------------------------------------Sturridge-----------------------------------------

Gerrard would not be starting the next game for me.
But he will.

Mourinho has sat Lampard down the last two games. Giggs has barely played at United.
Mr Rodgers needs to fucking man up.

I think we'll win there.
Our goals will start coming at some stage. Hopefully this will be on Sunday.

We're bound to put 3 or 4 past a team sooner rather than later. That said I'm happy with a 1-0 win aswell.

We need a win!

Agree on dropping Gerrard. He looked very negative yesterday and was just happy to pass the ball short and let Luca/Hendo run forwards with it. Totally different from Gerrard of old.

for me:

---------------Mignolet---------------
Toure----Skrtel---Sakho---Enrique
----------------Lucas------------------
--------------Henderson--------------
Moses------------------------Sterling
----------------Suarez-----------------
---------------Sturridge---------------

If Allen was fit and had been playing, even in the reserves then I would have him in there but I think it would be unfair to expect him to start and replace SG without any matches under his belt

Sounds a bit negative/selective bringing those stats up.
Our first 5 games last season brought us 2 points. It's still a great start to the season, particularly when we've not played anywhere near as well as the second half of last season (which I would imagine some of your 'equivalent games' come from).

Seeing Suarez back was so, so, good. He's so fucking good it's unreal. Looked rusty, yet was the best player by a mile.
He'll twat Sunderland.

The Gerrard issue is a big one, he's playing poorly but I don't think the defensive responsibility of playing him deeper is helping either. We need to put Henderson back in the middle, but a midfield of any two from Henderson/Lucas/Allen offers marginal (if any) goal threat.

Gerrard's still the better player out the four of them and the only one capable of a killer pass and dragging something out the bag, that just shows you how comparatively poor the other three are. We need better because we look outclassed against most midfields.

Deffo missing Coutinho everything good seems to go through him....

This is luckily the sort of game we needed right now, as long as Sunderland are still in a mess with getting rid of Di Canio?

Dont understand starting Toure at RB, and why Sakho was thrown in the way he has been. Fair enough he cost a lot of money but surely he has to earn a place in the team first?

Its interesting that since Agger and Toure have been out we have lost some impetus, I'm wondering what the 1st choice CB pairing will actually be in the end....

Surely Agger, but who will be partnered with him? For my money i'd stick with Toure right now as he has the experience. Skrtel is even ahead of Sakho for the moment....

Bit early for must-wins but come Sunday night if we've lost this and results go a certain way we could be 7th and 5 points off top. After 6 games. Then the start of the season doesn't look so rosy.
We need to take advantage of the decent fixture list we've been given. That included Southampton and includes this match.

-----------------Mignolet------------------
Toure----Skrtel-----Sakho---Enrique
---------Henderson-Lucas-------------
---------------Gerrard-------------------
---Suarez--Sturridge---Moses----

If Allen is back I'd put him in at the expense of either Lucas or Henderson, also maybe swap Gerrard and Suarez.

I think it's dangerous to underestimate Sunderland. Teams often seem to win the game immediately after changing managers, particularly the ones who the players can't wait to get rid of. Maybe Binny can provide some stats to back this up/disprove this theory?

Agreed, do they have a new manager yet? Or are they still with an interim manager?

Sometimes this forum is asking a lot of Binny.

The good news is, Binny knows everything, so he can handle it.

Should Moses be guaranteed a start?

I did miss the Swansea game in which he apparently played well and scored but in the both the Southampton and Utd games he didn't look up to much.

He's stronger than Sterling / Aspas and can hold his own more, but his first touch looks heavy and by the time he decides to do something the moment has often passed. Early days as it's a new team for him and what not but perhaps one of the other boys should be in with an equal chance to play.

Moses seems like one of our main attacking outlets already imo. Needs to play.

Sterling on the other hand just seems to go from bad to worse. Either give Ibe a go or get Allen or someone else fit. Would suit all parties best, Sterling just doesn't seem ready.

Aspas will only make an impact when/if we start to dominate possession in the opponents half imo. He is not really cut out to play in a counter-attacking team.

Yes, I think he needs to start at the moment. Plus with Suarez back he'll take more of the emphasis from the defenders which will provide room for Moses/ Studge to move in to.

Excited for this!

They won against Peterborough though. This will be Kevin Balls 2nd game in charge. 😉

If we score the first goal I think we'll win. If they score first and get the crowd behind I reckon we'll struggle.
Their defence is awful and Sturridge/Suarez should get a goal.

We HAVE to win
