Bloody hell, Stevie, you're not going to let this go are you?? 😡

The point of Stevie next to Lucas is that the captain seems to have a confidence in Lucas to be there when needed. A front 4 of Sterling, Suso, Downing and Suarez should be enough to hold the attention of the Sunderland defense. If Stevie has confidence in Lucas then he basically has a free role to come forward and pick his spot.

As we've all seen, he's not really a box to box player anymore - at least not at this point. If he's got the freedom to come from deep without too many defensive shackles he should find a little more space - which is all he seems to need right now to influence the game.
Because I usually don't disagree with anything you post 🙂

I think it's fundamental to why we're loosing matches we shouldn't - or more importantly conceding when we shouldn't.

With a front 3, an attacking mid in behind them and both full backs getting forward at every opportunity, giving Gerrard license to roam leaves us too open to getting murdered on the counter as we're leaving only Lucas & the 2 CB's focusing solely on defense.

Leaving Allen or Henderson to support Lucas will give Gerrard a better platform to do what he does best.
Houllier used Hamman, Murphy & McAllister to do it. Benitez used Alonso, Lucas & Mascherano to do it.

The sooner Rodgers figures out its better to utilize Allen, Lucas & Henderson to do it the better.

Suso can be gently broken in to the role as Gerrard's understudy.

Ahem. Where the hell are you Stevie? 🙂

I'm driving right now but looking forward to continuing this subject - and none of the bollocks it was only Sunderland or "he didn't really run it". Gerrard bossed that game and, 85%, from the deep.

A dangerous road Brendan's team taking these days.

Getting well used to impressive 3-nil victories.

OptaJoe on Twitter: "8 - Steven Gerrard's total of eight PL assists this season is only one short of his personal best in a PL season (9 in 2008-09). Vintage."

Only good thing about football in OZ is that you can watch every single Liverpool game

I cannot wait for the Utd game

Yep. I was one of the few who felt he was vastly under-performing in the first half of the season (not the only one like), but in the last few weeks he has been great, and tonight was as good as I've seen him since before the groin injury. And as you say Wiz, most of it from/starting within our half.

Same Fallon. Thought he was a shite up until December. Since then he's smashed in some stellar performances

I'm really looking forward to the Utd game.

Hopefully another big win and a clean sheet in the cup on he weekend.

Can someone correct me - I'm pretty sure that stat is utter garbage.😡

2008-09 season Gerrard scored 20+ goals and got 20+ assists.

What am I missing??

He did have plenty of games in the cup competitions that season to contribute to the 20, because those were the days we used to win trophies.

I guess the third goal was a great "4-3-3" goal , even if Sunderland's defending was pretty average . One of the centre backs or maybe defensive mids steps up to get close to Henderson ( i believe )near the centre circle , super stu makes a great run infield right into the space behind dragging the other centre back towards him , leaving Suarez to slip between the out of position centre back and fullback . Super Stu's run made all the difference .Oh nice pass and finish also !

They all played well and Stevie did well, but I still think he's playing too deep.

Not taking away anything from a really good team performance, because everyone played well - but Sunderland were horrific - their pressing was non existent and their marking was atrocious. O'Neil was all over the place - changing tactics several times - they looked completely disjointed as a team.

Gerrard would have had a hat-trick had he been sting in the AM roll instead of Henderson & Allen.

I also don't see any point in playing Suso out wide - we should have given him a run in the centre in the second half rather than out wide.

Neither Henderson or Allen are going to get enough goals in that AM position for me.

But it's all minor grumbles after a very satisfying performance.
