Missing Aurelio, Agger, Kelly, Gerrard and Suarez was just too much damage to take. Not excusing the hoof ball tactics on that day , but we really put out a very shit team, which was sadly, the best we could do.
Folks who bring up ridiculous theories about how the beloved Rafa would've won need to do their homework.
Look it up - when Benitez led the team through the Europa games, he always had at least 4 of these 5 available (except for the first leg against Unirea, and even then, he had 3 of them): Agger, Gerrard, Mascherano, Benayoun, Torres. He also had a specialist leftback available (albeit a poor one), instead of a rookie playing in a position that most reckon isn't his place.
Some perspective is needed. Benitez could've crashed out as well with that squad. Do people need reminding how we used to play at times when he had the luxury of Peter Crouch on the field?
