Gonzalez was terrible. I can barely recall hearing his name.

😀 Exactly.
Strangely the majority of posters at the start of the match thread were confident and saying they were impressed with the team bought out. We knew that we two of our greatest goal threats were unable to play for different reasons but what hurt us on the night was that one of the few remaining threats - Ming - had a very poor night.
Sure, we were sadly lacking in pace but, apart from a bright opening 15 minutes we looked much to cautious. It was Rafa at his best and no, he'd have failed dismally to get us through. In fact I would expect we'd have lost again under Rafa for this game because tactics would have been pretty similar but the players not interested.
I'm lost as to why we didn't try and inject a little bit of spice late on in the game when it was clear we were heading out the door. We had begun to look very stale by 70 minutes and we had one approach only; kick it up to the big guy.
Kuyt had a very forgetable match, Cole - after a very bright begining - either faded or lost interest, Ming was terribly off colour, Maxi was a no show and Carroll, despite all his effort, couldn't do it alone.
Johnson, Carra, Pepe and Lucas were the only ones besides Carroll who really performed.
