Denis Suarez set for Barcelona stay as Arsenal move stalls - sources

Denis Suarez looks set to remain at Barcelona until the end of the season after talks regarding a move to Arsenal broke down on Tuesday, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Arsenal were keen to sign Denis, who is in the final 18 months of his deal at Camp Nou, but have been unable to reach an agreement with Barca.

Barca want around €20 million for the midfielder, while Arsenal prefer a loan. The Catalan club would be open to loaning Denis until the end of the season, but only if any prospective deal included an obligatory option to buy in the summer.
Sources say Denis is now happy to stay in Barcelona but it doesn't look like his situation at the club is set to change any time soon. After initially being named in the squad for Wednesday's Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Sevilla, he was dropped on the morning of the game for new signing Kevin-Prince Boateng.
Denis, 25, has made just eight appearances in all competitions this season. Only two of those appearances have been as a starter -- in the early rounds of the Copa against third division side Cultural Leonesa.
Barcelona, though, refuse to rule out Denis leaving before the end of January. Sources close to the club have told ESPN FC that they are prepared to listen to any offers for players that are not playing regularly between now and the transfer window closing.
That tallies with what sporting director Eric Abidal and coach Ernesto Valverde said on Tuesday. Abidal said there could still be departures this month, while Valverde said he "doesn't know" if Denis will still be with the club at the end of the window and "it's possible" that he leaves.
Denis, who has played in England before with Manchester City, returned to Barca from Villarreal in 2016, inheriting Xavi's No. 6 shirt. He has a contract until 2010 but despite initial excitement over his signing, he has failed to break into the first team, first under Luis Enrique and more recently under Valverde.

🙂 You wanted in on this deal, it's ok to admit it.

Agreed. This is a scenario where I'm surprised we aren't thinking about making an investment in some sort of short term player who could either bolster the defence or would be a genuine game winner off the bench. I don't know who that is, but there must surely be options out there and the justification of the purchase is 'doubling down on our league position'

Would win us the title.

Yeah I still dont see any reason why they would be prepared to let him go at this point in the season so its about as realistic as saying 'if we sign Ronaldo on loan for 6 monthd hed win us the league'

Looks like they are getting ready to move him on this summer though, considering his age he would probably not be that expensive

It's quite a striking interview to give about another club, and refreshing in the sense that he's tapping himself up for us rather than one of our players for Barca. I have to admit I'd like him back even after his ludicrous antics in the past. But surely it won't happen.

No thanks for this season, too risky to try and integrate him with the front with 6 months to go.
Can imagine, if there is any sort of disharmony and we do let it slip it will be about him so don't want it to be our Tino Asprilla moment. Fine with spinning the dice with the current front 3 for this season even if we don't do it.

I don't think there'd be any problems integrating him. He's a Klopp-style player, he's the closest to Firmino around, and where would he go if he DID suddenly cause problems? In terms of rotation he'd be ideal IMHO. But dealing with Barca always causes problems. It's more them than him that would bother me. Edwards did a great job basically telling them to go away for a couple of years. I wouldn't want to reignite their interest in any of our players.

Portly, if that happened I’d go out buy myself a nice bottle of chateauneuf du pape and spend all night drinking that whilst laughing at blue moon.

I’d still be suffering a little from celebrating our league title.

But I get your point.
