Sturridge wants a transfer

This is Daniel Agger all over again. At various stages of the last 12-18 months we could have sold him and got a decent wedge for him - same happened with Agger when we unbelievably turned down 15-20M odd from Barcelona about 12 months before his legs completely melted.

I don't really care what happens to him now. If he goes, I won't bat an eyelid. He shouldn't be anything other than 3rd or 4th choice for us from here forward if he stays.

And no his issue isn't just that 'Firmino offers the team more, despite his less goals etc etc...'. It's that Sturridge is mostly fucking shit when he does get to play.

I agree with Ryan. Sturridge id far from being good enough for us, regardless of how well Firmino plays.

He's never been the 2013-2014 version again. When he plays we are very static. He drifts to the wings or back to midfield, stepping on Salah's, Mane's or Coutinho's feet. Far too often he's seen far from the opposition goal, and I'm not sure his conversion rate is that impressive (goals per attempts at goal rather than goals per starts or goals per minutes).

We should have gotten rid long time ago. I'd accept a good offer and let him go.

Part of his drop in form is related to a lack in confidence to go all out...worried in case he gets injured. However when it comes to England he seems deluded thinking he is number one. It strikes me that he is one of those that thinks because of 2014 season he has special rights but truth is ... it was his best ever season and the only time when he has had more than 20 in a season
..i am also sure playing with Suarez and Sterling helped a bit. Other than that he has been injured and as Klopp hinted .. he thought he could put up his hand and say ' yeah i can play today...feel good'.

We have seen some good finishing from him over the years .... actually just one season. I think he is way past it for us and for England.

Jurgen Klopp dismisses suggestion of selling Daniel Sturridge in January

Liverpool boss says he needs all his players

Jurgen Klopp insists Daniel Sturridge still has an important part to play for Liverpool as he dismissed talk of selling the striker in the January transfer window.
The England frontman’s future is once again the subject of speculation after being left on the bench for the recent wins over West Ham and Southampton.

Klopp appreciates that was tough for Sturridge to take considering he scored in the two previous victories over Huddersfield and Maribor.
However, the Reds boss says Sturridge, whose lack of game time cost him his place in the England squad, will get opportunities over the coming weeks and he’s not contemplating off-loading him.

“It’s a story. But actually I am not really interested in stories,” Klopp said.

“The situation with the player is completely okay.
“I can imagine a player with his quality is not happy that he is not starting all the time. I really can imagine that. But that’s all.

“At this moment we need all our players. We have November, even if he feels a little different.

“There is around one-and-a-half months to go before the window opens and I don’t think for a second about things like this. There are so many games before then and I need all of them.”
Sturridge is likely to find himself on the bench once again for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash away to Sevilla.

If he wants to regain the rhythm that comes from playing a succession of games, he should ask to play several 90 minute games for the reserves. Ings has done just that, and he's improved his sharpness, got some goals and generally regained the confidence that has made Klopp think about playing him again (contrary my presumption above, Ings has been included in the squad for tonight) during this busy period. Studge can't expect, any more, to use first team games to play himself back into form; he needs to follow Ings example, and attitude, and do it out of the spotlight.

By the way, here's the latest on Ings:

Liverpool striker Danny Ings' journey back to first-team football has been a long one but his absence is proving to be a benefit for the club's youngsters.

The 25-year-old has played just 17 minutes of a Carabao Cup tie this season, having managed only two substitute appearances in the previous year.

The sum total of his pitch time since a serious knee injury ruled him out for seven months in his debut campaign.

Another knee injury proved a setback a year ago but having regained full fitness he is regaining his match sharpness for Liverpool's Under-23s.

He has helped them to a five-point lead at the top of Premier League 2.

The attitude he has shown playing for the reserves has impressed manager Neil Critchley.

'Danny is brilliant for the younger lads. You just pass information on to Danny and he will pass it onto the lads for you, he's like a coach on the pitch,' he said.

'You forget Danny is only 25 himself and has plenty of years left on him but he is very mature for his age and I think his all-round performances get better all the time.

He added: 'He is looking fitter and more confident about himself so I'm delighted with Danny.

'Danny is chasing back in the last minute and helping out for the team. He is a great influence in the dressing room.

'He sets the bar for all the other players all round him and there's no excuse for anyone else when he's chasing all over the pitch and closing down the centre-halves.

'He is a great role model for our younger players.'

Indeed. The question is whether he can bring himself to do that.

He's way too arrogant to do that. I can't imagine him ever asking Klopp if he can play for the reserves.

That’s brilliant attitude from Ings. Takes a lot of humility and strength of character to fight back from adversity like he's doing now.

To be fair to Sturridge, he has come up through elite standards throughout his career from youth football while Ings worked his way up from lower down.
Ings’ attitude is special of course, but I think it’s a little too much to expect anything like that attitude from Sturridge. The guy really had super talent all his career until the injuries.

Press are reporting AC Milan are interested, and if it's true I don't expect see an offer anything near market value. They're a complete waste of time - clubs from Serie A

Agreed, but I can't make out how keen Klopp actually is to let him go, so Milan may get the treatment we gave Barca over Coutinho if they try and low-ball it too much.

Klopp doesn't consider Sturridge anywhere near as important as Coutinho, so he might be more pliable.

I'm not really sure what Sturridge is realistically "worth" these days

I'm sure Klopp said, in one of his last couple of pressers, that he wouldn't let Sturridge go in January.

Realistically will Ings be any worse than Sturridge? At the very least we know he will burst a gut for the cause. Can't quite say the same for Sturridge.

I’d love Ings to get Sturridge’s place on the bench at least. Hopefully we get to see him over the madness of the number of games we have in the next 6 weeks.

They're very different players, though, it would be like questioning whether Beardsley was better than Aldridge. If anything Sturridge would probably look better for playing alongside Ings. Ings runs all over the place, he's an absolute pest for defenders when he's at his best, and the amount of space he creates for others is exceptional. How he'd fit with Firmino already having the licence to move around so much is certainly debatable, but I do hope he gets a chance after how hard he's worked to come back.

I'm glad his back from injury but can someone tell me how he's done for the U23 and reserves?

Scored lots of goals, and several different types of goals, too - ones from outside the area, tap-ins, headers, etc. He's also been superb helping the younger players improve, too.

You have any numbers, transfermkt stats show 1 goal in 8 games.

Nice selection of goals there right enough, but equally noticeable for me were his team play and his readiness to congratulate and encourage others. In a number of ways he's the archetypal Klopp player. Fingers crossed for him - and us - that he gets a chance and can take it.

He could get away with being so 1 footed if he still had that pace. It’s gone and it was infuriating watching him constantly try to get the ball on his left. It’s time for Solanke and Ings to get more game time.
