If Dirk is really too knackered, play Wash instead. I think we need to attack Stoke. If we give them the initiative like we did against Wigan, we'll spend the whole game defending in a panic and may well actually lose.

Meireles was shit last night, but so was Lucas - and Ming was played out of position. I think we need to give him a run at CM, next to Gerrard, and see what we've got.

If Magic's not fit, then I'd play Kuyt at RW and Wash up front.

I actually agree that Shelvey must get some protection; but if he's good enough he's good enough,Kris.

Referencing Insua suggests that you think he's crap because he was brought into the team too early; but I think he failed because he was slow and crap, which was quickly established after a run in the team.
 
Lols everywhere in this thread. Anyone who tries to justify the comparison between shelveys performance last night and poulsons performances this season is delusional. Stoke will be too strong for shelvey.

They will hoof and throw in everything they've got at us, and we need to be prepared for that.

Some big players to deal with that, and then add some pacey players upfront and out wide.

Babel and Johnson should come on as subs, most vertainly Babel, because he has scored 99% of his goal v a tiring defence.

Johnson, should be tried on the wing, but maybe as a sub? So we can see what he can offer instead of for the full 90.

We have Maxi and Jovanovic, the team looked tired last night, we should use the subs more to help some players recover.

I hsve no worries about using our best 11 all the time, its what we did in the decades we dominated, but if a players looking tired or jaded, its a no brainer to give him a fucking rest isn't it?

Or maybe the Millionaires just don't like playing in Wigan on a wet wednesday?

Liverpool will wear black jerseys with embroidered poppies against Stoke City on Saturday before signing and donating them to the Royal British Legion.

The entire squad will autograph the shirts to help raise money for a charity which supports British troops and veterans of the armed forces.

All this comes after a stadium collection prior to our win over Chelsea, during which RBL flag bearer Brian Fearn led two RAF cadets - Dan Smith and Charlotte Delaney - from Liverpool University on to the pitch carrying a large poppy.

Liverpool also donated perimeter board advertising and a piece in the matchday programme to RBL.
 
I think Soto might play and Hodgson might rest one of Carra or Kelly, probably the latter.. Hopefully he'll be tempted to change the midfield a bit too after last night, maybe throw Johnson in on the right.

Its a risk playing Carra there but Konchesky can't win the ball back he can only block crosses. Which is useful but isn't good enough.
Play N'gog instead of Jova if you need to but we need to see if Jova can help us up top sometime cause he can't help on the wings.
If Kuyt is up to it I would play him instead of Maxi but I don't see how Kuyt would be up for another match, he looked dead after 20 minutes of superb play.
Kelly we can't lose against these giants and Soto is a must, we've missed him dearly (even against Chelsea which we won).
Meireles and Gerrard is the best CM partnership in the league, lets use it there is no better.

which premiership team has a better CM partnership. You could maybe argue that Chelsea do with Essien and Lampard. But I think Gerrard is better than Lampard and Meireles offers more going forwards while still having a lot of defensive steel(and is less injury prone than Essien). We have to let these two gel and form a partnership, they (along with Reina and Torres) could form a strong backbone that we develop the rest of the team around.

Gerrard hates playing on the left, doesn't he? I also think Lucas is pretty much a nonentity in an attacking sense. If you're going to play that system, it would need to be:

It's not really on the left, when it's CM in a 433 - there ought to be plenty of movement across those three.

Just I want Ming to play DM, who is traditionally placed in the centre of the midfield three in a 433 lineup.

Maybe Lucas is a "non entity" in attack, but he's better going forward than he is as a DM, where he truly is out of place.

Those players that showed excessive tiredness should start on the bench (Kuyt & Maxi).
Shelvey shouldn't start against Stoke (he isn't a 1st team automatic starter anyway so I don't understand the debate).
Roy has said that Poulson is not playing great and his confidence is low .... but he was OK for 20 mins against Wigan and Stoke are a more physical team so that may suit him more than anyone else we have - on the bench for me though.
Jovanovic is strong on the ball so if we play 4-4-2 maybe he should be alongside Torres.
Cole, Johnson, Mierles and Aurelio are supposedly all fit again. Aurelio starts because he is a better footballer than Konch at any time of day.

Johnson & Cole will not feature tomorrow as both are still injured. The Greek will have a late assessment. He is nearly recovered from tonsilitis.
