Curse the day

Lots of Twitter shite talking that it's broke down.
Didn't believe any of it until Markmc is saying that he's off to America in January as Fsg won't pay up his 140k demands.
Make of it what you will.

I think he'll take the monster pay day and play with Lampard in New York ... Might as well ... But Jan? Doesn't seem realistic (we still have a league to win obviously)

I heard he wanted a two year deal but was only getting offered one which is probably the right approach IMO

His attitude is all wrong here at the moment. If he goes elsewhere he'll probably enjoy a short period of renascence, which will no doubt prompt 'Liverpool messed up letting him go' headlines, which will have missed the point entirely. I actually think he'll improve here if he's just told to go off on unofficial vacation to finally shed all the negativity about the end of last season and the dismal world cup, but the point is he's not going to improve until he does sort himself out. A change will do it. A rest will probably do it. One or the other. But at the moment he's probably the most self-pitying and self-obsessed bona fide legend the club has ever had. And it's not pleasant to observe.

It'd be disappointing if his career at Liverpool ended as a result of a dispute over money.

In terms of the playing side of things, I can see it both ways. Gerrard's last shot at the title was last year and it's not going to come around again. Why stick around on the bench whilst we bed in about half a dozen 20 year olds and fans and the media alike take turns calling you shit. That said, there is something to be said for sticking it out at your home team. Tough one.

I wonder if any top sides in Europe would be interested in him now if he became available.

It'll be a sad day, the day he leaves. I really hope it isn't about money.
Totti agreed to a massive pay cut in order to stay with Roma.

I can't believe he's concerned about money. That doesn't seem like him at all. But if he wants a new challenge it's a bit late in the day to go for one. He won't learn a foreign language before he's finished as a player. And if he wants to play in the US then he must crave shallow experiences and empty-feeling success more than I thought he would. Staying at the club like Bryan Robson did with the Mancs would be the wisest decision, helping the team to evolve and still, perhaps, being around to enjoy a bit more glory, while gradually developing in terms of moving from player to coach at the club. But for all of his intelligence on the pitch he strikes me as a bit dim and pliable off it, so god knows what he'll do/

All of this hypothetical though. It's all rumour and hearsay as is this Stevie Me shite. If he wants to carry on playing for two more years and we're not willing to give him that then so be it. I don't fully buy into this self pity to obsessed persona that's sometimes painted of him. Yeh I'm sure he has his moments but if he was all about himself like is sometimes made out he could have had his choice of teams where he'd have won league titles anywhere in Europe. Any team would have had him years ago but he decided he wanted to do it with Liverpool. That's got to say something about him putting the club high in his thoughts and somewhat above his own self interest.

Yes, but just look at him on the pitch. He's the captain, but a captain can't afford to look full of regret, anxiety, anger, frustration and self-pity. WE can be like that. He can't. He needs to push everyone else on. He needs to be positive, make others believe and drive them on. He's like a one man soap opera withdrawing into his own little world. It's understandable, and it's easy to sympathise with him, but the cold reality is it's of no help to the club he loves.

Carra said himself a couple of days ago that he expected Stevie to sign a new contract.

He wont leave in January. If he leaves for the MLS for a couple of years then I wish him all the best.
I'll cry like a little girl the day he plays his last game for us.

I noticed yesterday that Henderson, even though he wasnt having the best game, was trying to gee up the players around him, and was communicating with Toure constantly

Gerrard I never really noticed do that. The most I ever saw was a clap and a "come on" shout.

Henderson is just awesome.

Have to say, it was like day and night between him and Henderson and to some extent Lucas in that aspect.

I've been vocal in my criticism of Gerrard, however I think my ire has been mainly how he has been utilised over the past 2 years.

It will be a shame when he kicks his last ball for us, and it will indeed be a sad day

He's never been a real captain on the pitch for me Macca, it's not really in his character. Should have been Hyppia or Carragher IMO. Doesn't mean he's as self obsessed and pitying as is being made out. Over the years the lads been brilliant for us regardless of his character flaws. I think the former vastly outweighs the latter. He's at the end of his LFC career soon and I've enjoyed watching him play for us

@BenSmithBBC: Liverpool have offered Steven Gerrard a new contract but have yet to receive a response or a counter offer #LFC

@BenSmithBBC: Worth saying that money is not an issue for Steven Gerrard or #LFC with regards the potential new contract.

Nah, I've yet to see Henderson demonstrate any kind of courage on the pitch this year. He's far from being a leader. Always the easy safe pass, bricks it in front of goal and plays well when the team is as a whole. Sad thing is we've few who seem to be able to step up.

All well and good shouting it up, do it with the ball at your feet

For god's sake keep it all behind closed doors. Very tacky from both sides if this drags on.

We're not comparing ability here, we're comparing leadership styles

Gerrard is a player with the ability to change a game, Henderson less so.

Being the best player doesn't equate to being a good captain.

Well that just shows how bad its got with Steven imo.

I agree with that, yes, but a true captain has both attributes
