These are his recent comments:

"There is a question mark over next year for me," he said. "I don't know what will happen. I am contracted to City and all I can do is carry on doing my job and performing well when I am called upon.

"If anything changes during the summer, it will be down to the club not me.

"It has been a difficult year because I care so much about my job," he added. "I care about my game and about the club, but there is a lot of frustration bottled up because I haven't played as much as I would have liked."

A couple of sources are linking him with Sunderland, James Lawton's article mentioned a £4m bid which is way too low. But if was available for around the £8m mark we'd be mad not to get involved.

I'd go as far to say that he's worth 15m odd in todays market. He'd be an excellent buy at anything below that imo.

I wouldn't go that high for him Buddha, he is a bit of a nutjob as well. I wouldn't invest that much in him given that particular red flag.

That said he is 23, has showed he can cope in the Premiership, creative and a goal getter from midfield. And obviously his best years are very likely to be ahead of him.

As risks go I think he's a good one to take.

Jesus Christ. Stephen Ireland in a Liverpool shirt.

With him and Jonjo, we'd have the gypsy fanbase sown up

He's certainly had his "issues" Ross, but nothing that has ever caused him any trouble at Citeh. In fact, I get the impression he's generally well-liked (don't ask me why).

At 23 he's already established himself as an very good player and with maturity to come I think he'll only get better. He'd surely be pushing for a start ahead of Aquilani/Lucas?

If Aquilani was worth 20m odd, Ireland is surely not far behind?

And when their extended families move over we'd have no problem selling out our new stadium.

Thats if we had a new stadium

They'd probably set-up camp on the side of the pitch.

Plus we don't have to worry about him getting injured on International duty.

LOL.

Think about the amount of compassionate leave he would look for though!

He's a decent player but where does he fit?

Robbie Keane was bought to fill the gap between the midfield and attack, so has Aquilani, and both have been kept out by Steven Gerrard.

Unless Gerrard's wanting to leave, or Aquilani's packing his bags, I think Ireland, good though he is, could prove yet another luxury purchase.

If we could sell Aquilani and sign Ireland without losing money, you'd have to put that down as a great deal. He's younger, less injury-prone, and PL-proven. I don't mind him being a nutjob, given all that.

We should really be back in for Bellamy too if he's going to leave City.

I'd see Ireland beside Masher, rather than playing between the midfield and forward lines. I don't see him as a luxury- dynamic with a good range of passing, he'd be an excellent buy. I'd play him and Masher in the middle with SG on the right and Aqua behind the striker- we'd then have SG being able to cover the Aqua or Ireland positions in case of injury/ family bereavement etc.

Aquilani behind the striker? As fucking if, he'd do well to score 5 goals. That's if he played the whole season, which he won't

I think he's shown that he's very dangerous 'in the hole', and I don't see why he wouldn't get a share- as he did against Athletico, when he played the role fantastically, and got a goal. So he's played that position once for us, and got one goal- your prediction of 5 in a season might be viewed as somewhat pessimistic. More importantly, his quick passing makes us more dynamic in that area and brings others into the mix- our movement when Aqualani has been in attacking positions has been among the few flickers of pleasure I've had watching us this season.

As to his fitness, he has been fit but not been played loads this season. I have faith we can squeeze a reasonable return of games from him.

If Ireland were available we should definitely make a move for him. Proven in the league and young too, he'd be a great squad addition.

Ermm....I suppose I wouldn't say no, at the right price, if Gerrard were to leave this summer, otherwise we should be looking at other positions.

Why do people still go about how much of a cunt he is? I mean really, who gives a fuck if he's baldy, rat-faced gypo simpleton from the arsehole of cork. He's obviously a good player and would be an asset to any team.

At the right price of course.

Agree with you there, although from a fan point of view I would like to see Aquilani given another year.

However the club will have better knowledge of his injuries, body and mentality than I do, so I could accept a switch with Ireland if it were to come about.

Agree about Bellamy, too, but I think he would have to be under a different manager...

Pink wheels - and it was his GF's car he got snapped driving

He's an absolute certainty to leave City at some stage, wpouldn't be surprised if it was this summer.

Mancini clearly prefers two solid players in the centre of his midfield, hence him sticking with two of De Jong, Barry and Vieira for the entire year. Ireland's no good on the wing, and there are better options there than him anyway - so he's fucked.

No doubt City will add to the squad this summer too leaving him even further down the pecking order.

Good player, could be very good, but as has been pointed out - he's a fucking dipstick.

He's not worth what we would have to pay, so no. Plus we dont need strengthing in that position.

I can't see City being particularly willing to give him away for a reasonable price to a rival. How much do you think he would cost us presuming they'd be willing to do a deal?
