Having showered Coutinho with praise, now Rodgers cums all over Sterling:

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling is heading for ‘new level’ – Brendan Rodgers

“Tactically, technically, and what has been beautiful to watch with Raheem has been his maturity. He’s turning into a beautiful young man, with all the responsibility. He’s taking it all in his stride and now he’s in a good place with every part of his game. It’s just about maintaining that commitment to his work. He’s still only 19, but in big games he’s performed and he’s a wonderful talent.”

Jesus Brodge tone it down for fuck's sake.

Liverpool to hand Sterling massive pay-hike amid Real Madrid interest

Raheem Sterling is on the brink of a bumper new contract with Liverpool.
The Mirror says Real Madrid are already on red alert after Sterling’s impressive form and performances for Liverpool during their run-in last season.
The 19-year-old also enhanced his reputation at the World Cup despite England’s disappointing campaign.
Sterling signed a £30,000-a-week deal just over 18 months ago and that expires in 2017 but the club want to reward him - and he can even expect to quadruple his wage.

It was written initally by John Cross of the Mirror though.....

We'll give him a new contract alright but I'm guessing he'll be offered 60-70k at first.

I don't much care how much we give him. He's worth every penny. How much would it cost to replace him .. even if we could find someone with similar skills/potential ?

Agree. Where do you go when you start paying a 19-year-old, even one as extraordinary as Sterling, 100,000 pounds per week? A bump now to 45,000/w is reasonable till a quarter or so in the season in.

Dream on.

I wouldn't go that far. He's on 30k so I'd offer 50 and be prepared to up it to 60, tops. For sure he's immensely valuable, but we need to take care that we're not seen to be totally rinsed over this.

Why should age affect his wage? He should be paid what he is worth - he may only end up resenting us if we restrict his earnings just because he is 19.

I would expect a tiered contract though that will keep him keen if it suggests a weekly wage of £100-150 in say 2 seasons time and stays at that level for a few years but builds up to that based on his performances.

I personally think he is something really special and we should just give him what he wants.

As a comparison, how much are our top-earners on? Gerrard I'm guessing is the highest? Sturridge?

Exactly. Couldn't care less how old he is. The guy is a serious talent. Look how hard it is to even come close to replacing Suarez. Try replacing Sterling without paying big bucks.
Pay the man ! Before someone else does.

You can decide how much more than an 'average player' Sterling is. And we all know salaries have soared in the past few years with the additional TV, PL, CL and sponsorship income. I detest it, footballers don't deserve these incredible figures, but it is what it is and we have to pay the going rate to retain our stars.

Do you think they told Neymar, Messi and all these other bright young things that they are too young to have a salary equivalent to their playing level ?

2006 : Premiership footballers earn an average of £676,000 per year, according to a survey by The Independent and the Professional Footballers' Association.

2011 : Average Premier League wages have reached £22,353 a week - before lucrative bonuses - or £1.16million a year.

Here are some of LFC 2014/15 player salaries (per week), is Sterling not worth quite a bit more than these ?

Skrtel £90k
Lallana £75k
Sakho £75k
Lovren £70k
Can £60k
Coutinho £60k

Sterling, Coutinho and Sturridge will step up big time this season. Premiership..........BEWARE

Can is on 60k!?

Where do you get these from?

No wonder Countinho wants a new contract!

I never understood the outrage over high wages.. If anything, in the grand scheme of things, considering the amount of money the top clubs make, it could be argued they're underpaid.
For the size of their contribution to the club's success, they get a very small piece of the pie.

Who deserves the money more? Ian Ayre or Sterling?
It's clear who makes more for the club.

He had a new deal not so long ago, if we go down this route of giving him a new deal every 12months, it's not going to be long before we can't afford to keep him. Say we give him 100k a week now and he has a brilliant season this season, do we give him 200k a week next summer and so on? Surely there must come a point we players have to honour their contracts for x % of it before we look at giving them a new one?

I imagine if we offered Sterling that 100k contract as we were rumoured to be offering him, after those 8 games at the begin of the season before last?

Perhaps we should offer him 50k, with a view to a renogotiation to 70k if we finish top 4 and he hits 15 goals in all competitions. That way we ensure continued effort.

I'm sure all player contracts are incentive based on a rising scale, it'd be pretty dumb not to be.
