Sterling interest rate raised

[article=http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/257121.html]Rodgers told The Times: "He showed over the first six months of last season that he has a future in the Premier League and at Liverpool.

"It was going to be very difficult to maintain the level that he set himself, but he is only 18 years of age and as much as we want to play young players and give them the opportunity, there is a nurturing phase as well.

"We have to be careful and avoid what has probably happened too often over the years in football and discard young players too early. I don't need them ready at 17. If they are, great, but certainly at 20 or 21, we would love them to be ready.

"England are looking to get the best young players in and, at the time, he was one of the best young players. We just have to make sure we remember his age and at what point he is at in his career and make sure we don't waste it.

"For Raheem, football has to be very much at the forefront of his mind. If it is, he is a talent."

Sterling, who made his senior Liverpool debut against Wigan in March 2012, has also had to deal with off-field distractions during his short career. In September, the winger was cleared of assaulting his former girlfriend when the case against him collapsed.

On the pitch, Sterling has struggled to maintain his early promise that brought him an England cap 12 months ago.

Looking back a year, Rodgers said: "At that point in time he was one of the best young players in the country and he went into that game and actually did well.

"But it is about managing expectations - that is the biggest thing with a young player. You have to be so careful because there are so many young players in the country who get a cap and then are forgotten about.

"It can cause issues. It hasn't as such, but I'm talking about young players here and not just Raheem.

"If they get projected into the international teams too early, there can be a misplaced belief that they are considered international players, when sometimes the circumstances dictate that."[/article]

Between the lines- he's a wee cunt and needs to get his act together sharpish.

Yep, stop pulling handbrakes, smoking cigs & drinking cans. Start wearing condoms and no more gang signs please.

30k a week at his age and we're surprised he's gone off the ropes and isn't concentrating on his football.

Is that figure true? Surely not!!

I think he had us by the short and curlies last season when he was in the team, his contract was coming up, and there were reports of interest from the Scum, among others. I'd tend to believe it.

I remembered when Sterling was just a wee lad (much younger), I added him on FB.

One day I saw him online. Thought I'd say a random hi on FB chat, not expecting much as I always thought footballers FB accounts are usually managed by someone else.

To my surprise, he replied. We had a brief chat, I encouraged him by telling him the entire global population of Reds fans and the club's future rested on his shoulders, told him to try his best though. He then told me he goes to church almost every week and thanked my support. Came across as a decent, down to earth lad.

Few months later, he deleted me off his friends' list.

Send him down to Bournemouth in the Championship I reckon, then a few of my mates can tell me what he is playing like....

Early signs I know, but the way Rodgers is handling all of these young'uns is really impressive.

That was the day he went off the rails and started slapping his bitches.

I'd like to see him getting minutes here, but the problem he's got is Rodgers has done away with wingers or wide-men ever since Suarez has returned so it's almost eliminated any opportunity for Sterling and Ibe, which is a shame, but a necessary one.

Swansea would be a brilliant place for him to go and learn, although if we're going to bomb Aspas out in January we may have to be cautious with our attacking players, because beyond our front two, it's a wasteland.

He needs to remember what he does well. At the moment he doesn't use his pace and he doesn't try to trick his way past players, and he hasn't got the confidence to do anything else. He needs to strip his game down to its bare essentials and start enjoying playing again.

I agree. I remember that when he played in the away leg of our Europa Cup tie against Hearts, he was so good that our only tactic was "give it to Raheem!"

I hate when International manager give youngster caps ridiculously early in their careers (unless its essential to stop Republic of Ireland stealing our players).

This one was necessary for more or less that reason, the only difference being that it was Jamaica rather than Ireland who were interested.

That said, if Jamaica hadn't been interested the Irish probably would have had a go.

A still none of the top 3 in the BBC Sports personality of the year will be English.
