Stadium News, part 793

That's shocking news! The Echo is now 55p 😱 ?

Been gone too long ...

It's also written & printed in Manchester & a large majority of their 'news' & photos come through pulling them from Twitter.

I used to be a case of running our & getting the late to read about something that'd happened elsewhere in the city in the early afternoon. Now it's a case of reading the paper the day after to see quotes & photos from Twitter users that you saw the day before.

Why the fuck don't we offer the 6 market rate plus 10-20%? Surely it's only about 1-2millquid?! What's all the fucking around

I assume if they go way higher than they have with previous houses they open themselves up to action from those sellers, though I could be wrong.

Anyway, I agree with woland, the club have fucked the majority of these people over. The only ones to have really benefited are those who were renting there, they've been given a nice amount of cash to move, which the majority of people renting do every couple of years anyway.

And while the selling of naming rights are not an option for the club, Henry says the required cash will be available as soon the green light is given for construction to begin.

Who decided that selling the naming rights is not an option? I am as much a traditionalist as anybody else, but it seems to me that if we could get £100 million by calling it the "Dr. Pepper Anfield Stadium" or the "Kentucky Fried Anfield Stadium" I would be all for it. 🙂

It won't be naming rights, but the stadium will definitely be sponsored in some way. Kind of like a kit deal, 5 year sponsorship sort of thing.

I don't think the majority of fans would be arsed about naming rights if it wasn't a pathetic brand.

Let's face it, the Allianz Arena sounds boss. The Warrior Arena sounds a bit ott but isn't shit.

Now, if we were the Tampax Stadium, or the Kleenex Bowl, it's a different matter.

Regardless, we'd all call it Anfield anyway, only the text & commentators would change.

Because the club has reduced the market value of houses in Anfield by more than 10-20%. Also anything involving Liverpool City Council is destined to take about 4 years.

Anfield is a valuable brand name that sells a wide variety of merchandise. I think they'll keep the name purely from a commercial point of view (although, as @Best Believe It mentioned, it will probably be followed by "sponsored by [insert company name]")

I think you might find the new stands are renamed for sponsorship rights

Is there still a Pink early edition ? Took me so long to get to the station I always picked up a copy to read on the train back home.

I think you must be thinking of the pink "Football Echo" that was printed in a hurry after the matches on Saturday? That was abolished a few years ago. I think that to compensated they incorporated a sports section in the Saturday edition of the regular "Echo."

Good memories, walking home the match & grabbing the pink for us to pour over the other match reports & sometimes see who scored/set up the goals we'd just watched, or why a player was sent off!

Watching matches as a kid on the Kop was more about the experience & trying not to slip over on piss than it was seeing the finer details of the match, especially when it was at the anny road end. Crystal clear view at the Kop end though, fuck, I can relive some of fowlers goals just starting to think about it.

What about the pink., does that still exist or has it been made redundant by the damn internet?

Standing in the local paper shop around 6pm on a Saturday evening with a crowd of aul' fellas, peering out the door to see if the Echo van was coming, was the highlight of my week

Quiffer! Made redundant about a decade ago, ditched a couple of years after everyone bar the odd pensioner stopped buying it.

We used to walk back from the match, go to the shop where we delivered the echos through the week to get our ticket money, & have a short wait sitting on crates of cans for the pink to get there!

Incidentally that should be the standard rate for a lads match ticket, whatever the weekly going rate is for a paperboy in that area.

Innocent quiff - didnt read the thread apologies.

I'll go back into my timewarp & dream of the old days

I never understood why there was no pink equivalent in London, until someone pointed out that you could get the Sunday papers there around 10pm. If you could stand the smell of rat piss to go out & buy one, that was.

You're quiffing Tom! I said in my previous post that the "Football Echo" closed down years ago. I reckon it was around 2004.

I guess you could blame the internet but that is destroying all print newspapers - I reckon that in 5-10 years time there won't be any left.

Thanks Ports - exactly. A piece of anachronistic football culture that was as important to the time as Flemings and the stories of Scottie Rd.

No such thing as mobile phones or scores at the match even .... if you didn't hear the results read off on the radio " Rochdale (tone rises) 5 Bradford (tone drops) 1" then it was the Pink that we pored over for the results and tables on the way home.

The Tampax Stadium. 'Keeping the reds in'.

A spade I'm the ground within 60 months!

Probably 7 years since the Muppets said this..

15 years since Moores and Parry started looking for that purpose?
