If anything, I think aiming for the inside of the post was a bit too showy for a shootout... Would have been a laugh if it bounced right out.

He's good, but not good enough to have meant to hit the inside of the post. He meant to get it into the corner.

and what if it had of got to the 5th and say Bruno Alves was stepping up to win it. People would have been shouting that ronaldo should be taking it . It then would have been the most important penalty .

i guess the problem is more that people believe , and probably rightly so , that he wanted the 5th for the potential glory.

I'd agree with most of that, as its what happened with Drogba taking the last for the chavs against munich yet no one has criticised him for stepping up last, but I would also ad that even if most perceive Ronaldo as being a dick for wanting the 5th then they should also look at the other side of the argument which is him having enough confidence in his team mates to make it to the 5th. 🙂

I think "almost equal" is a slight exaggeration. That would imply that a penalty kick has only 50% chance of going in. I would have thought the probability of a goal from the average penalty would be much higher than that. So for that reason, you would have to assume that the opposition is going to score all their goals. So you keep as much pressure on them for as long as possible by starting with your best taker, and working down the ladder. Sure, your best taker can miss, but there's a stronger possibility that you're weakest taker will miss too.

i guess there's no precise formula and that's why penalty shoot outs are so good .It's a gamble no matter what you do . I mean if it goes to the 5th and it's to win it , then you want one confident and brave fucker to take it . You could argue that it takes proper balls to step up and take the 4th or 5th more then any others as the likelihood is it is either to save your team or win it , the pressure is much more so fuck it , maybe you do deserve some more of the glory.

one last thing , i just noticed that when spain beat italy in the QF of '08 , fabregas also took the 5th penalty to win it . THE BIG BALLED GLORY HUNTING CUNT !!

I don't really see that there's any rhyme or reason as to who takes them then to be honest. Great players can score or miss pens, crap players the same. I do think there's something in Ronaldo's massive ego creating situations. But then without that ego he would not be the player he is. Hate him as I do, imagine Downing with even half that cocksure belief.
