It's been thay way for about 6 years statiscally
No argument that Gerrard is/was a great player. But I have always had the impression that when he is not in the team. the rest of the midfielders mysteriously seem to play better. This was particularly noticeable with Xavi Alonso who always had his greatest games when Stevie was out of the team.

Nah - we used to play better without Stevie result wise not because of his talent erosion, but because of how the team changed once he wasn't on the pitch (more players taking responsibility etc). We weren't a better team without him overall. last year i'd say he was key in our run ... he just cannot handle it physically anymore.

he was instrumental in getting us to our closest ever challenge for the title last year!

Yeah, he admittedly had a great few months from October-Feb, but it was SAS that caused last season's anomaly. He's often been detrimental this season.

I can see the flag hanging over the wall near the kop.

With his grease top head on it too obviously.

I said last week when people were moaning that other results hadn't gone our way, just worry about our own results the others will slip up eventually.

Coutinho's poor turn of form lately has coincided with Sterling's absence and the loss of movement up front.
If Raheem starts then I would like to see Plilippe start as well.
I suspect we will see a return to the Coutinho we all rave about .

This was a spot-on prediction before the game.

Does this mean the defensive critics on this board are going to give up the " he can't coach a defense after 3 years " line or are they simply waiting in the bushes.

This manager clearly has the benefit to learn from his own mistakes and deficiencies.

This picture makes me laugh (namely Moreno):
