Quotes from Mohammed Al Fayed at Fulham's press conference yesterday:

"This other guy let us down and just walked away. Don't mention Roy Hodgson any more. After we put him where he is now, he took advantage. But we have a nice guy now and I'm sure he is going to get us to the championship." [Edit: Let's hope so.]

"Roy disappointed the fans, the players, he was just a bugger. But that's his character. He can't help it. I forgive him, anyhow, and I'm sure he's going to get Liverpool downhill."

Ah, diddums.

Odd comments, indeed. Is Al-Fayed often like that? If so, Roy will be glad to be out of it.

Yes. He's a mad old twat.

Saint: took advantage of the platform Fulham gave him, I guess. Fact is it was Roy who got them where they are, not the other way around.

Mersey: yes, he is. "Private Eye" are always ribbing him about it.

You missed out the part where he said Hughes was much better looking.

Bizarre comments even for that fucking idiot.

Roy Hodgson has accused Mohamed Al Fayed of damaging their relationship after the Fulham owner hit out at Hodgson for quitting Craven Cottage to join Liverpool.

Hodgson has admitted he was disappointed to read his former chairman's comments in the wake of him leaving Fulham to succeed Rafael Benitez at Anfield.

Al Fayed, 77, accused Hodgson of letting the club down by walking out on them.

Hodgson, who helped established Fulham in the Premier League and led them to last season's Europa League final during his successful spell in charge at the London club, refused to let Al Fayed's criticism pass without a response when questioned on the subject.

Hodgson said: "They were part jovial I think. He (Al Fayed) didn't want me to leave and thought that's what I should do.

"But the chance to manage here was a bit special. I loved Fulham. My good fortune in leaving was that all the staff, players and chief executive understood the decision.

"I'm a bit disappointed that the excellent relationship I had with Mohamed has taken a bit of a knockback. It would have been nice had he said nice things about me, but I'll just have to take things on the chin."

Small clubs like Fulham will always be seen as stepping stones to bigger clubs, like Liverpool. Especially if the manager in question is:

a) really good and/or
b) a sweet old man

Haha. "The Times" was my source and it didn't report the "better-looking" bit. Perhaps they were trying to be kind to the old fruitcake.

Everyone knows Fayed is a loon. Hodgson joins a very very lengthy list of people he hates, and this one was quite polite for him!
