Souness: Is he a twat?

Not open for further replies.
That's bull JJ, Souness has never been a Rafa fan regardless of whether he's no SS or not, he's always questioned Rafa always.

I don't doubt that Souness' criticism of the Rafa has come from a place of love for the club.

Rubbish. Whatever his feelings about Rafa, a man who loves LFC - and I hadn't doubted Souness' feeling for the club before now - shouldn't go on Sky Sports One and give that slavering caveman Keys exactly what he wants to hear.

What an absurd thing to say, if that's what he thinks (and he's entitled to) he's gonna say it regardless.

For a bright lady you can be quite remarkably obtuse. Souness can say WTF he likes but, if he "loves the club", he needs to be careful when and where he says it. The guy has form for this, in case you'd forgotten.

Oh for pity's sake, not you too, Avvy.

This is not, repeat NOT, repeat again NOT an argument about whether Souness is right or wrong, still less about his right to hold or even express such views. It concerns his action in feeding a media agenda which is plainly unfriendly to this club.

His motives are suspect, but it doesnt mean the things he's saying are wrong,Jules.

I don't believe that JJ. is questioning what Souness said but rather the timing (ie in a Sky studio) of what he said.

Nail/head interface.

Understand completely, but Macca's posts (and to a much lesser extent, yours) suggest that it was this very same agenda which require us to not accept his comments.

Anyway, fuck Souness.

He can bitch about Rafa all he likes, but he's a major reason why we've been so shit all these years.

Got to say I don't really see that in macca's posts or mine, but if that's how it came across then so be it. I certainly didn't intend that (and I doubt macca did either).

Souness' reign was disastrous and deserves its share of the blame for our slide off the top, but ultimately I see it as having been a symptom of our problems rather than a root cause. Those roots lie deeper in the club and its recent history.

Where the fuck is Souness supposed to air his opinion?

His income as a pundit and profile within the game is best-served by offering 'expert analysis' on the channel that owns Premiership football

And then you have the fucking temerity to claim that it's not *what* he's saying, but *where* he's saying it? Ie on Sky?

But you have no problem with Thommo doing a Sky spot every week? Or Dalglish or Hamann or whoever appearing on Sky?

So you're actually just full of shit?

He can air his opinion in any number of newspapers which aren't the "S*n". If protecting his "income as a pundit and profile within the game" is such a very pressing need for the poor lamb, he can air his opinion on SSN or other Sky programmes which don't have Richard Wolfman Keys looking to stick the knife in every single b****y time, as Thommo or the Kaiser do. Keys hasn't dared interview Dalglish BTW since the King wiped the floor with him on air for putting an anti-LFC spin on everything in sight. As if you didn't know.

So if he'd gone onto Sky and said to Keys:
'Rafa has done a great job, I'm right behind him, he's the best man for the job'
You'd be OK with that and wouldn't start quacking on about it on the internet?

I'd sooner the guy hadn't gone on a programme anchored by Keys, who's not interested in anything but bad news about LFC, at all. If he was going to go on there, then as someone who loves the club he could and should have stonewalled Keys' inevitable search for knocking copy.

Right, so we got there in the end:

He should change his opinion and lie about what he really thinks, depending on what media channel he is on at the time

Jesus Christ, I give up. And so should you.

If he can't avoid the situation altogether, which would be the best option, he should soft-pedal his public criticisms when faced with a resolutely non-objective interviewer whose only purpose is to attack the club he loves. It's not that hard to understand.

He should probably see if LFC TV want him to be a pundit, with their 12 viewers, although maybe they won't like his real opinions - which you have no problem with obviously - on the proviso that he expresses those opnions in media channels you approve of.

Again: Jesus Fucking Christ

This could well turn into your 6cm 'parry evil genius' nadir, in which you truly did make an unholy div out of yourself

*fingers crossed*

Souness won three european cups and multiple leagues with liverpool. He can say what he wants.
As an ex player, he may have some right to talk about players but as an ex manager, no... he has no legs to stand on where management is concern.
So where does that leave the rest of us?

The rest of us as fans have the right to rant and rave. That is all.

I can kinda sympathise with what JJ is saying because I think that we all tend to be more positive and stand up for the club when in the presence of smug cunts that enjoy a laugh at our expense any rival fan who isn't a mate.

That said, I'm still more inclined to agree with Brendan here. Pundits are judged on their opinions and don't have the same luxury of being selective because it'll be thrown back in their faces later on.

Whatever. The timing and the circumstances makes him look a twat (in our eyes) and make us, the club a laughing stock in the eyes of those who long to see us fail.
