Arsenal win it.

Spurs edge out Chelsea for 4th.

We finish 6th and while we miss out in Europe we are pump-primed for a crack at those cunts next year.

Note - FA Cup I won by some unfasionable non-top 4 team.

I'd take that.

Alex who?
That's Sir to me and you!

Ferguson, forgot that key bit of data.
Alex? FUCKING ALEX? We'll have none of this Alex stuff round here me laddo.

Ginsoak. Taggert. Cunt. Twat. Take your pick. Alex. Tut.
Yep.

And Chelsea. Torres is dead to me to now.

I don't want that lot from down the East Lancs to make 19.

manu - would make number 19th
arsenal - may be a catalyst for dominance
man city - may be a catalyst for dominance
spurs - may be a catalyst for dominance
chelsea - torres plays for them

I vote sunderland to win the league

I have to say, I couldn't care less if Utd win nr 19. We won the league for the last time 21 years ago, we can't live on old memories forever.

So they have one more win than us, so what?

The most important thing is the future and us reclaiming the title as most winning club. That has to be our goal.

Forget the past and look to the future.

let's face it, you wont. when it comes to the crunch you nearly always implode. you'll win the carling cup though. not saying that to be mocking as we've won fuck for 5 years.

I agree. I couldn't care less about the record - it belongs to a different generation.

Poll is missing Liverpool.

I can't vote.

Hahahaha. Gotta love your unwavering optimism.

It does seem to be a recipe for a lifetime of disappointment though!

Yep, I've been of this view years. The fact that we're a 'big club' and Chelsea are not is absolutely no comfort when we're years off winning the Premier League.

Agree to all 3 posts.

We'll see if you lot are singing the same tune if/when they beat us to no.19 and start crowing about it.

Besides, regardless of the numbers involved I don't want those buggers to win anything, ever. The fact that they're bound to do so sometime makes not a scrap of difference to that.

Kenny said as much about our history and told the players to step up to make their own.

Modric just had a appendectomy. Spurs are gonna miss him. Let's keep winning and chase the CL spot. Hell why not?

They'd certainly be my preference, and Wenger insists they still have hopes for it, but I can't see it happening. I'm not sure their squad is well enough balanced, or that they have the mental strength.

Hmm, some people seem to have forgotten the question, you know, with just the TWO teams to choose from!

It's going to be the Mancs, and Jules is spot on.

The talk of 'a different generation' is going to seem a little hollow when the record is broken, count on it.

But it's going to happen, and we'll just have to rebuild..thankfully we have a lot of tools on hand this time..

I live in Manchester and it's not going to make any difference to me. They've been winning the title year in, year out and our retort of "we're still more successful" is lame and everyone knows it.

The first challenge we have is to start winning again. Only then can we start worrying about the significance of records.

That's not really the issue,keni.

Yours and Squiggs posts suggest that the record shuldnt have significance to us because it's in the past and bears no relation to our current situation; and I don't see it that way.. for 20 years we've been mere shadows of who we used to be, and the loss of that record should matter because it's the final nail in the coffin.

We will no longer be the most successful club, and it's going to hurt.

But that final coup de grace should be the impetus that galvanizes us; no longer a crutch that defines who we are,but as a marker that will define who we will be (hopefully).

That's why it matters.

Anyway, I'm rambling..my hunch is that your view is shared by many, but that it's just sheer bravado for the lot of you.

It's going to hurt, but I think that's why it's going to be a good thing..and why it's a good place for us to start from.

I'd rather manu didn't win number 19 (and to be honest I think they'll canter to 19 this season) but it isn't the end of the world. giant hands aren't going to close the 'premiere league book' giving us no change to win our record back. manu went 26 years without winning the league and were nowhere near us and they are on the verge of overtaking our record. things move in cycles and losing the record of most league titles may get a monkey off our back and give us determination to get our title back.

It's nothing to do with bravado. I enjoyed watching us in the 80's and it was all fantastic back then, but that's a long long time ago.

I don't think it really matters that much at the end of the day. The most threatening thing to the perception of the club (that's after all what we're talking about right? because our identity isn't derived from being *the* most successful club or some whatever record) is not being in the CL and not being known as a team that is capable of winning the league.

It may hurt and perhaps even moreso because Ginsoak will have achieved his ultimate goal, but I'd argue that he's already knocked us off our perch. We're classed as also-rans and we need to win the title in order to change. Having some record or losing it doesn't change that.

Agree except for one thing, which bears pointing out in view of the torrent of gloating due to come in our direction from over Manchester way - while they'll be the most successful club in the domestic league (for the moment,) we'll still have two European Cups on them.

Our identity is derived both from our past and from our present. Saying we mustn't get stuck in the past is one thing, and we'd all agree with that, but dismissing its relevance altogether is IMO neither realistic nor ultimately helpful, as that's largely where our standards and our ambitions are derived from.

I would have Chelsea to win it over Man U, only if they fail to win the European Cup. With Torres famously miskicking in the deciding penalty shootout.
If Man U were to win, Sur Alex declares that he finally achieved his goal of knocking Liverpool off the perch and retiring. Liverpool goes on to dominate the EPL for the next ten years under King Kenny. In that time, the now retired Sur Alec floats around Old Toilet like soem phantom ghost of the past undermining all the incoming managers.
