So what would be 'success' this season?

Winning an away game?

Avoiding relegation?

Top half of the table?

European football?

A trophy?

Or simply our players remembering how to play football again, showing some passion and skill, and restoring the club's pride and togetherness?

What would Kenny have to achieve to make you consider him a success in his comeback season?

One good signing in the Jan transfer window, who comes in and helps the team in a big way...

That will be a step towards getting back up.

avoid relegation. lick or wounds, regroup and in the summer hire the best young hungry manager we can lay our hands and support him with a large transfer kitty.

Avoid relegation? Fuck off should that be considered an 'success' for this manager and these players.

The league is still pretty tight. Winning a trophy would be a success, as would finishing 6th or more.

Stopping the rot and restoring some confidence has to be the first step, however, and there's no better place to start than a cup match against United.

agreed. I'm just looking for 'a safe pair of hands' until a quality manager can be secured the job hodgson was SUPPOSED to provide this provide.

if kenny does have us racing up the league it will make a mockery of the people who claimed roy had no tools to work with.

I think top half of the table would be ok, I'm not too bothered about what actual position we finish in if it's outside of Europe, and obviously Europe would be great. But to me it's more about getting our players playing together again and getting some belief back in that we can build on it next season. It's about seeing a progression and that we are looking to reach our goals.

Considering our current status I'd say getting past man u tomorrow is a great start.
Success for me is if he can get the team to start playing football again.

Nobody who said the squad was shite suggested that it was relegation zone material.

If we race up the league it will still needs between 5 and 7 players adding to it regardless.

It's an easier gig for Dalglish than it ever was for Hodgson, because he commands immediate respect at this club.

^^^

I want to see us playing hungry attacking football, some youngsters given more time, top 6 and a decent cup run.

I'm having a nifty on us for the FA Cup at 40/1.

cup trophy or great run to excite the fans would be great. More passion and brave attacking play. Top 4 looks out of reach, so European place would a vast improvement.

Sixth and making me *want* to watch my team again

Oh and retaining our Spanish stars in the summer

OK, so we're clear about this: no one expects him to get us into the top 4 or even the top 5? IMO it's mission impossible, and even if we look like we're heading that way, I think we need to keep in mind just how shit we've been this season and what a terrible position we're in at the moment of Kenny taking over.

On paper we're probably the 6th best team in England, so we ought to be able to finish 6th. And it would be ridiculous to 'expect' a trophy, given that we're only left in two cup competitions, and in one of them we've got the toughest draw possible with the new manager given only one day to prepare for it.

We may be about the 6th best team, but we're starting with a handicap of minus a few points. 6th place would be an unbelievable achievement for Kenny.

We must finish in the top 6. If anything to ensure my pre-season bet pays off!

Also final of the Europa would be nice..

You're right, and I meant to add: it would have been normal for us to finish there, at the beginning of the season. But we're 8pts behind Sunderland at the moment, and 5 behind Bolton. Not impossible to overhaul those margins, but we also need to get out of our death spiral first.

I expect no miracles from Kenny. We've got what we want, and we're all in this together now.

If we win this midweek game, there will be only 8 points seperate us and the 4th placed team. Can we do it? I believe we can. But we must make good use of the transfer window.

At the start of the season I'd have said getting back into the CL spots. Now we'll have to be satisfied with making it into the Europa League again.

Success would be top four and getting beyond the quarter finals of the Europa.

Top 6 would be ok and enough to say Kenny has done well.
