So... Exeter

Mignolet, Randall, Ilori, Enrique, Smith, Brannagan, Stewart, R Kent, Teixeira, Ojo, Benteke.
Probable line-up (Tony Barrett) #LFC

I'd like to get a look at Ward on the goal. I also want to see Teix, Ojo and Brannagan. Not bothered with who else plays.

Trickett-Smith scored again this evening. An attacking midfielder who has a natural sense of when to attack space in the area, it's a pity he wasn't considered fot Wednesday.

I hope this game is good, because my dad has apparently thought it sensible to take a supporters bus that will see him back to his house some time around 5am. He's much too old for that nonsense. I have no idea what he is thinking. He has so much family in Liverpool, he could easily stay after the game. This really speaks to where I get my antisocial inclinations from.

Not looking forward to long rants about the decay of the anfield atmosphere either, as seen from the away end for the first time in his life.

From the pre-match interview it really looks like a similar team to the first leg will be selected, which makes me worried. I understand why Klopp doesn't want to miss the opportunity to give some of our youngsters invaluable experience, but I also think that the risk of going out of the FA cup today is quite big and playing at home and some extra time training together might not be enough to bridge the gap between men and boys. Especially if Caulker is not eligible and we have to start with Enrique again. Coupled with a loss against United a potential FA Cup first round exit could create some negative momentum for the club.

Klopp is thinking long-term, but he is surely taking a serious risk in the short term if he goes that route. Personally, I would selected a team with more of a mixture of youth and experience compared with the first leg. Certainly the best performers from that game – Brannagan, Teixeira, Smith – should all play, together with a couple of others (probably Randall and Ilori), but I would also get the likes of Allen and Ibe in the team and Kolo should definitely start in place of Enrique, unless he really cannot recuperate in time from the United game (more ice baths should help!). With Caulker signed and Lovren nearing return we have a lot more options in defense than last week, so there is no need to protect Kolo (or Sakho) at all costs.

----------------Mignolet---------------
Randall---Kolo----Sakho---Smith
-----------------Allen-------------------
------Brannagan-----Milner--------
Ibe----------------------------Teixeira
-----------------Benteke--------------

Not sure what you are on about Rurik. Firstly Klopp said ages ago he'd play roughly the same team and secondly how can the team that drew away now have a big chance of going out playing at Anfield.

The odds must surely be better than at Exeter where they were unlucky not to win.

Happy to see much the same players as at Exeter. The quality of the pitch and the extra space should suit them and we'll win by a couple.

Looks good to me. Throw Poulsen in there and I think we have a winner...

Why risk starting with so many first team players? An injury to one or more, as we saw not long ago in a single game, can wreck a season. We have a real chance of silverware a few weeks away and still a chance of fourth. I wouldn't take he risk personally.

We have no real chance of fourth.

When was a little kid he'd do the most x-rated crunching tackles that you'd actually hear from far, far away. It was sort of funny but you doubted that he'd ever have a career in this era if he grew up like that. But he did grow up like that. And he does have a career. He's mellowed a bit, but he's still quite different from most other right backs.

I think my concern about him was his lack of pace at fullback. Still a concern really, but I love watching those tackles, and he was magnificent at times two seasons ago.

Don't need pace if you've broken the winger in half the first time he touches the ball.

Great strategy for overcoming a weakness - pure ultraviolence.

Not sure why we're bothering to put Enrique in at CB. Another limp out-of-position display like the last one isn't likely to attract any bids.

6 months left on his contract though. We wont even get enough to cover his weekly tanning costs

So no surprise there at all - it's as I said earlier - since that is pretty much exactly what Klopp said after the away game. That they played well and so deserve another chance in the return.
