we have someone deserving of the number 7 shirt.

Suarez put in a gem of a performance today. His constant movement gave our midfield an outlet and gave him plenty of possession too and it's fair to say he made the most of it. His dribble for the first goal was out of this world -if Messi had done it we know what the reaction would be. His strike for the free kick that Kuyt got his third from was classy too. Its hard to find fault with him isn't it ? He looked a bit dead on his feet at the end, but that's not surprising given his work rate.

Superb technical ability all round, dribbling, shooting, good work rate, clever movement and a good eye for goal. Seems to have the right attitude too.

Great signing and I think he has a bright future at Anfield.

He can go past players like they're not there.

Only the very, very best footballers can do that.

He's quality.

Its hard to put into words just how impressive he is. He's looking like a good swap for Torres straight up. That we got Andy Carroll too is just the icing on the cake.

January 2011 will be seen as a major turning point for the club.

I was thinking of making a post about his link-up play. While we've had great goalscorers in Torres and Owen, and some functional ones in Heskey and Crouch, they've all largely been one-dimensional. Not since Fowler have we had a striker who's not just capable of scoring goals but also has tremendous awareness and link-up ability.

He's fucking dynamite - quick, great feet, terrific touch, low center of gravity and deceptively strong. And from the looks of it he likes doing the dirty work in that he tracks back and scraps when necessary. I can't wait till he hits a scoring patch.

Fingers crossed but I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that we have a potential superstar in him.

Let's not forget that an on-form, motivated and fit Torres could do everything Suarez can, and possibly even more. That shouldn't be forgotten.

Agree with everything else.

I don't think he can Squiggs.

I'd take him in the finishing stakes over Suarez, but that's it. He doesn't have the link up and movement, the free kick ability etc.

Agree.

great player, as rosco says he looks to be a good swap for torres (especially since the torres of 07/08 is gone forever imo) and then we get a massive bonus in carroll on top.

the thing that sticks out for me with suarez, though, is just how much a really really good first touch does for a player. every time it's nigh-on perfect, setting him up for s shot or for a sprint at the defence. his touch is definitely better than torres's.

I dunno. The Torres we had for the first year and a half was the best striker I've ever seen in England, along with Henry.

Suarez has got to do a lot more to surpass that, but I do agree that he has all the attributes to get there. and like you, I would have been happy with a straight swap.

Havent seen someone go past defenders in the premier league like that for a long time..... My Manc Supporting mate even said good player.... That says a lot.....

I think they're completely different players, Torres can beat a man but he mostly does it with pace, he does not have the guile and trickery that Suarez has. Very few players in the world do.

I don't agree with that. I loved Torres when he was here but I was pretty clear that he'd never be a patch on Henry - who in his pomp was heads and shoulders above Torres. Just look at his stats - Henry wasn't just a goal machine, he was an assist machine.

I've always seen Torres as a taller, stronger version of Owen. A lethal face-to-the-goal striker who made a living on playing off the defender's shoulder. But nothing on Henry who was stronger, quicker, more skilful and an infinitely better back-to-the-goal player, which allowed him to drop deep and create (and not just score) - something that neither Torres or Owen ever did.

Just a continuation from the post above, I do think Suarez offers a lot more in terms of dropping deep, demanding the ball, and creating. Something Torres never did not just because of his perceived lack of drive or motivation but also IMO because of a lack of ability. And I'm not saying this just because Torres has left, I always felt his touch or back-to-the-goal game wasn't very evolved.

Put it this way, it was never, ever pointed out on here when he was on-form/fit.

Which says a lot.

I think that's a pretty fair and accurate comparison.

I completely disagree with this.

When Torres was at Atlético he regularly played on the wing, when he plays for Spain he often plays as a support striker.

He played up front by himself when he was at Liverpool because Rafa wanted him to, not because he couldn't play anywhere else and definitely not because he lacked ability.

Someone was saying today that Barcelona had him for a trial before he went to Ajax, the consensus was that technical ability he was as good as Messi, but he couldn't shoot very well when he was on Trial, don't know how true that is mind.

Generally when he starts up top with spain he's the main striker and Villa is his support and usually from the left hand side! If Torres doesnt start Villa plays up top with someone like pedro in support. But fuck him he's a judas c*nt!

He's quite happy doing the dirty work - he would happily cross the line to win - just look at the world cup. Whilst vilified by most, all he gave a fuck about was ensuring Uruguay won, fuck his own reputation.

After so many bottlers on £50-100k, at last we have one who gives a fuck, well done Luis!
