Selling Agger would make more sense than selling Skrtel, as much as I like Dagger, he just can't be relied on, he's far too injury prone.

He elbowed Torres in the face. Give the man a contract for life.

Refugee spot on again.

I'm still not 100% behind Skrtel. He is rarely injured bar one long term spell out, he gives 100% and has the occasional stormer.

However, he can be rash, clumsy and has a habit of shirt holding. He continues to make tackles when staying on his feet would be the better option. He needs Carragher to keep him in line and I feel nervous watching him at times.

I'm not advocating selling him but i'm not his biggest fan.

Yup, I've always been a fan.

Not everyone walks out of the womb a ready-made centre back... or soemthing like that.

Plenty of defenders have taken time to learn the art, and rid their game of errors. He's got great attributes - strength, pace, good attitude, and decent on the ball.

What's the point in selling someone who you've put 3 years of work into and is getting better each year anyway?

Quite. He's STILL the only defender I've ever seen take on Drogba and best him in a straightforward physical battle.

Skrtel is probably the quickest most agile center-back in the squad. Not counting Kelly.

I'm not a fan myself but I agree it would be silly to get rid at this point especially as he's had some good performances lately. I think he'll never be good enough to be a leading CB in a title challenging team but might possibly end up being good enough to play alongside one. I still fear he has too many mistakes in him though but we'll see.

Yeah. I'm still not confident when ge's left to his own devices. When partnered with Carra, I'm pretty confident in him, and he's played well with Agger alongside him, too. But when he and the Greek are playing together, I'm generally terrified.

Fair point, but Soto (though in general I reckon he's done very well for a cheap 4th choice) seems to have started going downhill lately. I'm in favour of strengthening the squad wherever we can, and if that includes CB that's fine by me, but I think Skrtel is worth persevering with as a stand-in at the very least.

Carra's the perfect example of this, he didn't settle into the centre back role for a longtime.

Indeed. For a long time I thought he'd be best left at LB, where he looked a lot happier than he did in the middle.

I don't think that matters. Carra got picked at CB for Liverpool FC and we're entitled to judge whether or not he justified his selection, whatever his background may or may not have been.

I think Skrtel all in all has had a very good season. He has improved year on year and rarely gets injured.
Im in favour of keeping him to be honest.
I think Agger is a better footballer but these injuries wont go away, so i think we should sell Agger and probably the Greek too.
Carragher, Kelly, Skrtel and a ball winning CB to be signed would go some way to building a back four.

I can't believe people are advocating selling Skrtel/Agger etc it's nuts.

We might get a decent amount of money in the summer (if you consider that really the new owners have not spent money on players). Why people think its a good idea to spend money on CB's getting rid of our current ones is beyond me considering how few goals we have let in with mainly Agger/Cara/Skrtel playing since Clarke and Kenny got here. Like Ryan says we have worked on Skrtel for a few years, put some faith in him and leave him to it.

(I know people will say re Agger he is injured loads, but to those people I say 'aaah piss off')

My views exactly. I think the Greeks contract is up at the end of the season. Hopefully we will replace him with a Hyppia like defender, easier said that done.

Preferably someone left footed, are there any about?

Martin Skrtel now stands just 90 minutes away from completing the remarkable feat of playing in every minute of every Barclays Premier League match.

The Slovakian has been an ever present as Liverpool have plumbed the depths under Roy Hodgson before emerging back into the light with the arrival of Kenny Dalglish.

The only other outfield player who can boast such a record is Leighton Baines, Everton’s Player of the Season.

If only the same/similar could happen with Agger...

I just wanted to say: Martin Skrtel - most improved Liverpool player of 2011.
Well done lad.

I was all over him for years when the rest of you were all 'he's shit' - same with Lucas.

Like I ALWAYS said with Skert. Look at what he's got; pace, strength, great attitude, good in the air, good on the ball, so why not spend time working with someone like that and developing him?

He'll be one of the best centre backs in the world that boy.

that would be lucas.

He also appears to have found some new confidence in being a genuine threat from corners.

I can't think of a recent game when he hasn't got his head on a corner and made the opposing keeper/defenders make a save.

The Skrtel/Agger partnership has been immense of late.

I still think agger is better but the partnership is excellent.
