Skittles skiddaddling?

He is though. We live in days of the Ministry of lowered expectations.
Sakho wouldnt get in any other team in the top bracket of Europe. He goes long periods of being sat down even for us.
We have a squad full of bang average losers.

Coutinho and Henderson are probably our only players right now who would get in to any top sides. The rest wouldnt even warm their benches.

But one could have said the same about the Mancs when they won that first title with a load of young players, excellent though they were. In our current position we have to concentrate mainly (not exclusively) on players with more to give and more to prove, and add value to them. It's the "not exclusively" bit that's the real potential problem - especially after Suarez, we haven't yet got the balance right between promise and proven quality.

Sakho's problem is he's injury prone, not his ability, during our 12 game unbeaten run he was our best defender by far, almost faultless, unfortunately he gets injured and goes back to square one.

Don't see how this is Rodgers fault - he's not the one doing the negotiations - although he must have indicated he wanted the player for negotiations to commence.

Was thinking more from the point of Skrtel, using contract negotiations to not give Rodgers a vote of confidence.

Or could be Skrtel sees that staying at the club is not good for his career.

Might be overthinking it though.

He was one of the very few players last year that gave 110% every week and was easily our best defender over the season.
He's no Franco Baresi but are we realistically going to sign a better defender?
I fucking doubt it.
35 million on two central defenders spent in two years and one of them spends half the season on the treatment table and the other is so far out of his depth it's scary.
Our contract negotiations are fast becoming an absolute farce.

It's not his only problem, but I agree he's far from our biggest worry.

He's a reactive defender. Pretty much the polar opposite to the likes of Ferdinand, Terry, Hyypia, Hansen, etc, all of whom commuted about 10 last ditch slide tackles in their career.

Skrtel does that in the first half.

He's got great attributes, and can defend relentlessly, but he's utterly fucking braindead and has zero concept about positioning. Which for a bloke who's played as a centre back in the premier league for 7 odd years is an indictment on him, and our coaching staff.

He's not going to get any better so if he doesn't sign this contract it'll not be any loss.

Having a reactionary defender is fine though, if you have a good stopper alongside who will lead and read the game. None of our centre backs do that and he's just about the pick of the bunch, so it's still a loss, if only in the short term.

Cant wait till our best defender leaves on a free and we get to play our 40M defensive halfwit partnership.

I'd play Wisdom and ilori as a pair in the ressies, every game through to the end of the year and tell them to show they're worth considering for the first team. Then either show faith in one or both or ship them out once and for all. The loan process sometimes goes on far too long. I still like Ilori. Wisdom hasn't had great benefit from loans in terms of learning a position - he's been deployed as a CB, an RB and a wing back, and he's ended up looking completely disorientated. But don't keep sending them out. Work with them here or sell them. At their age they need to progress here or elsewhere.

If Terry, Ferdinand, Hyypia and Hansen had had Lucas and Gerrard "protecting" them they would have looked a lot less proactive. Skrtel, like most of our defenders, has had little or no protection from our midfield since Mascher left and can't plug all the holes so resort to last ditch tackles and damage limitation.

If Skrtel played beside John Terry (instead of Cahill) we would be wishing he was ours IMO.

He gave away one penalty last season and one the season before that lol.

Biggest load of shite ever is this myth that Skrtel concedes loads of free kicks and penalties.
Good comeback but he's still too often a liability. The question is often asked of our transfer targets...would any of the top 4 be interested in them. So let's run that one with Skrtel. Would he get into Chelsea, Arsenal Utd or City's first team? I doubt it.

He's the one CB we've got who has proven himself time and time again. He had a poor year last year but he has had some terrific years and been voted fans player of the year twice in his time here. For me he is largely unappreciated and believe tying him down is important, especially so when we have no replacement we can rely upon.

You could almost be referring to Rodgers there..."He had a poor year last year but he has had a terrific year and was voted manager of the year. For me he is largely unappreciated and believe tying him down is important, especially so when we have no replacement we can rely upon."

I think he would get into any of them teams.
Chelsea is probably a push but he's as good as Cahill imo and he's definitely better than Johnny Evans,Koscielny and Demichellis.

They are the weak links of their defence while he is supposedly the rock of ours. It's not his fault the defenders around him are largely shit but it does place a burden and emphasis on him that's he's clearly not up to.

That's why I've no confidence in getting an adequate replacement.
We've already basically spunked 40 million on the position and we're worse than before.
I can't see any positives in letting him go.

He would get into all of them apart from chelsea. Easily the manure team.

The plan should be to improve on our weak links, not improve on our better ones. It's too risky to let him go at this stage, with our defence performing so badly. If we can get a better defender in, then we can let him go, but not before.

Even if we get a better defender we should still keep him. Lovren is muck and sakho is injury prone. Letting him go is pointless.

weak links or not the original question was whether he would get into any of their teams. The answer is clearly yes.
It isn't...his deficiencies would be better covered at the top 4 clubs but individually, he's not good enough for them. He's not always been good enough for us either.

No if we get a better defender than him we play that better defender AND sakho. But as sakho is injury prone we should keep him as backup as lovren is muck.

But he's better than Evans who is a manure regular which makes him good enough for manure. He played better than Kompany last season which makes him good enough for city as well. Not to mention Mertezacker(sp?) which makes him good enough for arsenal as well.
