Six Nations

I'm really looking forward to this year, it could be any of 4. A win against the welsh might be the push that England need to move on.

MJ has already started the excuse machine in case, saying he is building for next year, but if they dont kick on this tourni, then most will lose confidence that he'll have anything other than a group of good players that cant string a pass together (excuse the pun).

It all comes down to individual matches, this weekend could have a lot of fireworks though.

Pity Sexton's injured-

anybody know how long he's out for?

With Sexton injured why has Ian Humphries not been called into the squad?

Answers gratefully received.

It's a pity Ferris is out too. McLaughlin has been doing well for Leinster for a while now but you never know how lads will take to the international game so it'll be interesting to see how he goes.

When the Ireland A team was picked, with Wallace at 10, it was a clear indication as to where Keatley and Humphries stand in relation to the Irish squad. I read and listened to a few different experts this week, and not having watched much of Humphries I don't really have an opinion on it myself, but the general consensus amongst them seems to be that when he plays for Ulster he regularly gets babied defensively. Apparently on defensive set pieces Ulster often put him out wide and put a centre or flanker in his spot. That suggests he's not a competent defender, so they don't think he's suitable for the national side until he proves he can defend at 10. All that being said, we still pick ROG .......

Trimble's inclusion was a little surprising, I thought Earls would have gotten the nod. That said it's great to see him back on top of his game, I never knew the extent of his injury problems until I read an interview he did with the Indo last Saturday.
Yes Trimble's been doing great, and fantastic to see it- and I suppose if they're thinking Humphries hasn't got it defensively, well I suppose that's fair enough...though as you say, they're happy enough with ROG.

The word is that Ferris could play but is being protected for France so he's really fully ready for action. I don't know what truth there is in that.

THAT's the key word. We were a disjointed rabble at times last season. If we're organised and purposeful this season Johnno will get a degree of leeway regarding actual results (though they'll then have to improve next season). If we're still as ragged as we were last time out, though, hopefully the RFU will put him out of our misery.

Its like Rafa all over again.

Keep putting in shit performances, but refusing to do anything about it. Maybe its the coaching and not the manager that needs stripping out (rugby now).

You won last year without scoring a try. We practically gave the game to you by giving out a ridiculous amount of penalties and Jones lapped it up.

We've made decent strides to cut that out this year, which will level the playing field and hopefully see a proper game of rugby.

If you ignore the Leigh Halfpenny try, then yes, Wales beat England last year without scoring a try.
I should have put 'legitimate' in front of that, admittedly

There are straws in the wind every now and again in the press to the effect that the coaching team are not all pulling in the same direction. Ultimately, though, it's Johnno's responsibility. He picked them, he's in charge of coordinating them and - as with Borthwick - he's stuck with them despite calls for change. I think we have to regard him and them as a job lot.

It's a hard one to call mate.

We've both been playing rather poorly recently. I think home advantage might make the difference.

It's going to be close.

Matthew Rees is a big loss to Wales, but I think Williams will perform well.
Charteris is there to challenge the English line-out, and he's reasonably handy around the park, if not physical enough for my liking.
I think our front-row will have far too much for the England front 3 - Payne is a liability.

The back line of Wales needs a creative spark from somewhere - I'm hoping that Hook can provide that, and that Byrne's running lines can provide the penetration we were sorely lacking in the Autumn.
Our back row is better this year, Ryan on form, Powell slowly learning what the breakdown is and is now hitting rucks. The only worry here is Nugget, who has not yet hit his straps this season.

England's back line, whilst possessing that creative spark, is lacking physicallity in the centres - expect Doc Roberts to be launched at the 12/13 channel.

Overall, a tight game with a lot of penalties.
Wales by 3-5.

Might have to change my verdict if the rumours I'm hearing are true and Gethin Jenkins is out injured now...

If true - England win by 3-5points

My only prediction is that I'll watch many of the games with you and at least once every match you'll say "they're not rules, they're laws".

Well, you'll still have Adam Jones, but that will be a big miss for you if it happens.

Yes.

In the same way that if a child kept saying '1+1=3', then you'd keep correcting them...

Did you ever think that I may be saying "rules" because I know how much it upsets you?

Saturday week all-dayer? Ireland v France and Scotland v Wales, Boyle will be in Didsbury that weekend.

Upset me? No.
In the same way that the '1+1=3' child wouldn't upset me, merely envoke pity...

Definitely all-dayer saturday week, but for me the location will be Cardiff for a spot of corporate hospitality and then post match beers - all gratis.
Nice.

I much prefer the cheery, happy-go-lucky Bryndaloo in the pub, we can continue this discourse when you have a pint in your hand. By which time I will learn that 1+1 =2 and you will learn that INVOKE begins with an "I".

Anyway, my prediction...........

1. France
2. Ireland
3. Wales
4. England
5. Scotland
6. Italy

O'Callaghan out for us, Cullen steps in to replace him. We've been lucky thus far that we've got capable replacements in the areas we've suffered injuries.

I'm not sure that weakens your side TBH. What's your take on it?

Cullen has been playing well for a good while now so I'm not overly bothered by it. The one thing I will say is that O'Callaghan and O'Connell compliment each other very well, they have a great understanding and get through a massive amount of work together.

It won't be the same with Cullen, but I wouldn't have any worries about him. I'm more interested in seeing how Healy gets on in the scrum and seeing whether McLaughlin can cope at international level.

Your front row will certainly have a job on its hands, but I was expecting us to make hay in that department when we last played the Wallabies and they promptly went out and held their own. Even if the Italians win that battle, they've got naff all to hurt you outside the scrum, or stop you hurting them for that matter, so overall I still expect Ireland to win without undue difficulty.

Woo-fucking-hoo!

Just got a phone call there, two premium level, prawn sandwich tickets have just come into my possession for the game tomorrow. Happy days!
