A couple of things which haven't been mentioned yet, but without which VvD might be more vulnerable than he is despite such a comprehensive skill set, are his willingness and ability (one doesn't always see both in a player) to mix it when he has to. Strikers who try and muscle him into submission soon learn the error of their ways.

To think Klopp and the club were being slated by some on here for not pursuing alternatives when the deal hit trouble....

What's the tune man? Please don't tell me an OOT has to earn the right to know! 😵

To the tune of Dirty Old Town

He's our centre half
He's our number four
Watch him defend
and we watch him score
He'll pass the ball
Calm as you like
It's Virgil Van Dijk
It's Virgil Van Dijk
(Repeat til no one can be arsed)

Bit mad seeing as he has only scored one, although it was against Everton.

Cheers man. That's a boss tune. 🙂

I don't think any one quite knew hiw good VVD would be other than Klopp. Many including myself, thought our defensive problems were systematic of Klopp's approach and even a very good CB wouldn't have transformative change we needed. Therefore that 'very good CB' could have been another player. That Klopp has altered the attacking balance of the team this season suggests his original approach was leaving us too exposed. The main point here though is that both VVD and Gomez have surpassed all expectations and adding in the best keeper we could have also helped. Klopp was completely right to wait for VVD and he's certainly stuck two fingers up at the press who have long suggested he couldn't fix our defense. The only question left is whether he can get our attack firing on all cylinders whilst remaining tight as the back. To compete with City Klopp has to create a perfect footballing team. If it wasn't for their dodgy money, this wide would win multiple titles, IMO
