I wasn't trying to suggest that people who didn't stand on it want it back. I was genuinely interested.

Cos if you didn't it do it, whilst it was an experience, it could also be an unpleasant experience as you got pushed, shoved, manhandled, robbed and pissed on. And that was if you were lucky. The rivers of of piss that ran down the Kop wre legendary. After many games I came out feeling like I'd been performing 90 mins of exercise.

I sometimes wander if there is a romantic notion of standing being better.

Well from what I understand this 'safe standing' malarkey is much more akin to the standing I've experienced: namely in front of a seat at away grounds, or in the Kop on European nights.

And every time the atmosphere has been hugely better for it.

My understanding is that the proposals for "standing" are very different than what standing used to mean. More like the proposed standing airplane seats. Still an assigned spot for each person - each with a numbered spot to lean back on. But, this would allow about 2 times the density that current rows.

I think this could be done very safely, but am convinced that I would get assigned to staining behind Athens.

I'm a short arse, you'll be able to see.

I think its probably workable as long as there are clear guidelines enforced, such as only allowing it in sections that are sold strictly to members or supporters groups etc

Theres no reason to think it would have to be as badly organised as it was previously, the security at football matches is completely different from what it was in the old days of standing sections. Id imagine it would be trialled in smaller sections and then expanded if it proved reasonable to police and control. Id be in favour, its not like there wouldnt be plenty of seated areas for people who didnt want to stand, they would just be more expensive. Id be surprised if its not been tried by a few clubs in the next couple of years, its a cheap way for them to grow revenue without having to invest in upgrading the stadiums

Can I ask if any of those who voted yes, ever stood on the standing Kop before it was redeveloped?

I haven't, but as been mentioned already, it would be more like it is currently, however you're allowed to stand, it won't be the open terraces of the past.

Given electronic ticketing, the kind of seated barriers they would use, and how monitored it would pretty much always be, I can't see a reason why it would be a problem or unsafe.

I've only stood on a terrarce at a lower league team which I know isn't even close.

Anyway, the way safe standing works is they basically have rows that are separate e.g. you get a ticket for a 'row' and in that row you stand where you want and the numbers in each have a cut off point.

Me. And whilst I remember it was brilliant at the time (I was never robbed or directly pissed on), so were many things 25 years ago that we'd look at now and dismiss absolutely. I'd like to see the modern day version introduced on a trial basis.

I was there twice just before the rebuilding and didn't like it at all, the pushing, pissing, puking wasn't my thing, but the crowd rush nearly made me shit myself, as an Ooter it is hard to get suddenly get into the 'swing of it' if your only there a few times a year. I then sat there twice after rebuilding and it was more comfy but I still didn't like watching games from behind the goal. Anyway, I believe the all seater system did subdue the atmosphere in the whole ground so I voted Yes. I now sit in the Main when I can get to game and although I don't want to be in a standing section I do know there are many who do and it could be safe enough nowadays for them to do so.
