Now I know this has been discussed many times before, but the Lib Dems have come out and said they'd be campaigning for this as part of their manifesto, so maybe there could be some serious movement behind the idea. What's the general consensus here? I believe the plan would be to introduce rail seats, and have standing sections of the ground.

Obviously this is very sensitive subject for our supporters, and it would be very difficult for the club to implement, however personally I'm all for it. I never experienced the old days of standing stadiums, but this seems a far cry from how things were, and considering most people stand anyway, wouldn't this just help increase safety?

Here's the article for those interested.

I think safe standing would be epic. Very much in favour of it. Going to a match and guaranteeing you can watch with your mates transforms the experience and atmosphere.

Having to sit really kind of ruins football. I've been to Liverpool games with absolutely brilliant atmospheres, but only when people stood en masse.

It should never have been stopped in the first place.

It's the stadium, it's much much better standing up, and as Brizzle and Peter say, it completely transforms the atmosphere.
I don't stand up when I watch football at home. It's just tiresome.

I hate sitting down. I'm 6ft 2 so my knees are forever digging into the chair in front of me. I'm sure it stops a lot of singing too. It's much harder to sign sitting down and it's harder to belt it out. It also reduces, in theory, ticket prices due to a higher volume.

Yeah, I'm all for it. It's 2014! We should be competent enough as a nation to recognise he benefits and put safe systems in place.

It's 2014, isnt a good argument.
Back in 1986 some fella probably said the same thing.

Depends whether you learn from previous mistakes or not

If you're so desperate to sit down during the game go and buy some prawn sandwiches and sit in a fucking box

There we go, another tall person using any excuse to tell us how tall they are.

Seriously though I'm all for standing. It improves the atmosphere manyfold. Its also easier to concentrate the loud fans when there's a dedicated section for them. Not to mention it should bring the ticket prices down somewhat as you get more people in.

This and inflated ticket prices.

I see loads of people have been complaining about ticket prices recently, including a march to the PL HQ in London.

I haven't see one of them suggest the obvious best solution: allow clubs to broadcast every PL game on tv. Then tell clubs that a large proportion of the extra revenue they get (say 75% perhaps) has to be given back in the form of reduced ticket prices.

Would Sky be able to block that?

I like the idea though

I loved standing at games. It was all part of the experience.

Until I went to Hillsborough in 89. Indeed it was the same there in 88 in the league game against Sheffield Wed.

Im not sure how they make it "safe". To be honest, I've got used to all seated and then standing at my seat. I'm not sure that this will happen. Also if you think they'll lower the prices, then you must be mad. Football will milk every udder of the cash cow it can. Until the game implodes.

As for it being a political manifesto item? What a fucking joke.
