Pepe, Kelly, Johnson, Agger, Gerrard, Torres, Carra, Mascher, Pacheco all MUST stay. Everybody else is available a) at the right price and b) depending on the potential replacement.

Aurelio, Aquilani, Riera, Yossi, Zorba, Lucas, Maxi, Kuyt - I'm not actively looking to get shot of them, and if they're still here in August, that's fine, but they're available...

Everybody else can leave. Today.

Brendan why would you sell Aquilani? I know you hadn't watched him prior to coming, and I know you were sceptical, and I KNOW this season has been a mess for him, but surely you've seen enough now to know that he's a fine player?
I understand your hatred of Lucas, Insua, Ngog etc because they aren't very good, but Aquilani is VERY good, and whenever he has started he has almost always performed. 13 starts with 2 goals and a bunch of assists not to mention how well he's played generally. I justdontgetit?
Is it just the injuries? Because he really ought to have been played a lot more than he has.
I'd throw the same question to you about Benayoun Oncy.
He's hot and cold which makes him unpredictable for the starting 11, but the guy is at the very least a quality squad player, and I think that we still need people in that role.
Simply because I don't like him on the wing mate. We have Gerrard and for my money Aquilani who are better players in the hole. I just don't think we need three of them. If gerrard were to leave I'd want Yossi to stay. But he's wasted out wide, and where else will he be played? I'd rather see Pacheco as understudy to Gerrard and Aquilani and some proper widemen brought in. Nothing against Yossi. He's an ok player.
Played on the right rather than the left, Yossi is generally very productive. He scored one and created the other last night, and that's by no means a freak example.

If we were offered £8-10m for him, I think you'd have to consider selling because he's 30 and will soon have no sell-on value, but if not I'd definitely keep him, simply because he's one of our few skilful, dangerous players.

Pesam, I'm not mad about Wash, but I think he'd do as a fourth-choice striker. If we sell him, we'll have to buy three of the fuckers, and they're expensive.

Yossi is our fourth top goalscorer in the league this season with far less starts (and many in a position he's rubbish in) than the midfielders ahead of him. He is so undervalued on this site it's untrue. He's a proven squad player that has contributed a lot of goals.
Mate I don't undervalue him at all. I value him highly. But he'd be third choice for me in one position that he is really really good at and I don't think he'd be happy at 30 to play 10 games a season.

On top of that you have Pacheco, who although unproven, seems to be similar is style to yossi and I think plays in a similar position as well.

He is good at RW where he has played the majority of his games for us and scored most of his goals.

I don't know where this obsession about Yossi in the middle comes from.

I agree with Oncy about Yossi's position, though I agree with you about his ability. He's not a winger (he's barely even a true wide midfielder, given that he comes inside at every possible opportunity) and I remember at least one interview with him during his time at W.Ham when he himself said he prefers to play centrally. Nor is he the first skilful, relatively lightweight player to be stuck out wide despite preferring a central role - step forward Vlad Smicer and Joe Cole, to name two off the top of my head.

I know! Me and Skullflower are the only non-Jews who appreciate him.

FFS. Not *every* wide player has to hug the touchline. It's perfectly acceptable to have 'wingers' who cut inside - Messi being only the most obvious of the many examples in modern football.

We do need a 'proper winger' as well, but that doesn't mean we have to dump Yossi.
Erm obsession? I think it's the first time I've ever mentioned it or even thought about it.
It's a fictional land where we can decide who goes and who stays. Assuming everyone (like me) has crafted their remaining squad in their image so to speak they would keep players who they felt fitted their needs.
I did that. My desire is to have a team with proper wingers ie-Valencia, Malouda. I don't want my wide players to be found in the space between the penalty box and the centre circle within the width of the 18 yard box. That's just me though. Yossi is a very good cm. He isn't a winger. He does a job at rm but NOT rw. I want to play with (ideally) 1 DM, 1 CM, 2 Wingers and 2 Forwards.
That's just me though. I'm not obsessed about Yossi playing wide, I just don't think (in my mind) that he'd play very often.

I didn't mean that you were obsessed, just that there seems to be this general school of thought that Yossi's best position is in the middle and he's wasted out wide. He's played most of his career out wide and a lot of attacking midfielders find that this is where they end up.

He's proven his worth as a squaddie in the three years that he's been here by averaging about 9 goals a season as a squad player. In a side that can struggles for goals and creativity without a certain two players, I'm just continually surprised that people don't seem to value that.

As for having traditional wingers starting fair enough. Why does Maxi get to stay though?
Im not undervaluing what he has acheived here, but that's under Rafa and his tactics. He wouldn't play under my tactics and that's kinda the point of this thread.
And Maxi has played far wider for atletico and Argentina than he has here. He can cross the ball. In 3 years you could count yossis crosses on one hand.....that's had 3 fingers severed.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he can play a wingers role and hug the touchline and get crosses in but I have never seen any evidence of it.
I don't want to play with 3 narrow. Simple as.
