Quite. He's nowhere near the finished article. He also lacks a yard of pace when on the ball which can see him caught out when carrying it forward against premiership players. It's a big step up from League 1 to this level and he'll need time to adapt and improve.
He'll hopefully prove a decent enough player for us but imo he's got a long way to go to force his way into the squad on a regular basis.
Well, he certainly lacks pace, which is obvious to anyone who has ever seen him play, but that didn't/ hasn't stopped the likes of Xabi Alonso.
I think Shelvey has shown some really positive signs, and involvement in the first team is just what he needs, but yeah, he's got a way to go yet.

Yeah I think it might serve him well to play him a bit deeper. He seems to be playing in an advanced attacking role, but he looks much better picking the ball up deeper and looking for the pass, like Alonso.
