It's not actually the defence as a whole that's the problem now. As a unit they're improved and held the line much better. What the problem is now is individual decisions, and I'm not sure you can coach that out of a team. Moreno - this fucking idiot has cost us every damned time we've played his old team. What the hell is wrong with him? And early in the second half after that, when we should have been slowing it down, we were belting uncontrollable balls all over the place. Absolutely moronic.
We try and force the play when we make a mistake, so Some of our brainless chaff (I look at Henderson, Moreno and lovren) seem to think it'll help. All it does is squander possession and put us under greater pressure.

we lack leaders - was there even one on the pitch? Then again, sometimes leaders make no difference but this happens too much ...
so disappointed, good night.

I'm afraid Henderson tonight was disgrace as a captain. He was utterly inconsequential.

The fact he still has the armband is damning to the entire footballing side of the club. The fact no transfers have been made who could oust him in 4 years (or however long he's been captain), speaks volumes about us

Moreno crumbled again. It's almost like he threw the game on purpose when we were on top. Idiotic defending.

It doesn't take much to disrupt us and to see us dragged all over the place, we don't hold shape when on the back foot and we don't pick players up in open play or, particularly from setpieces. As soon as that does start to happen, heads drop and mistakes creep in.

I agree that the players are part of the problem - Moreno has mistakes in him, but the biggest flaw is that when he makes a mistake, you know he'll make more, because his confidence evaporates. Same with Klavan, Karius, Lovren and Mignolet. That's more or less your defensive platform. Not a single one of them has a backbone in terms of rectifying their own mistakes through having the ability to calm the fuck down and to be intelligent about the play. And you can see it happening a bit with Gomez too.

Part of that is not having leaders and real class players in a couple of key positions to stand alongside them and to show leadership, either through just sheer quality, or good old fashioned intelligence and determination. But the organisational side of us is severely lacking. Our game, for the last several years now, seems completely and myopically focused on us always having the ball and being able to press. When that tails off, we haven't got a fucking clue.

Problem is, klopp thinks he can coach the players better.

Klopp looked pretty pissed when they scored their third goal. Even he must be thinking - fucking hell whats wrong with this lot. All I can say is that thank God we scored three goals in the first half.

Well even if he's not coaching them to play like this, he's allowed it to happen. It's a failure on his part too either way.

To be fair to him, this is probably the first time he's encountered this level of ineptitude in several players at once.

I don't think he'll persist much longer

I see labia-lips Ferdinand is already hoping this has a bad effect on us at the weekend. Seeing as we were crap after coasting to a win against Maribor, he should pull the panties back up over his stupid mouth and shut up.

On a night of disappointment there might be something positive to be taken from the game with the performance of Karius.
He wasn't in any way culpable for any of the goals and was brave on a number of occasions.
He made a number of really good saves too.
Or is my desire to see the back of Mignolet clouding my judgement?

Doubt it. He should have realised after the Europa league final but the lack of urgency in this windows suggested he could work with the players.

I thought he made some very good saves, and his kicking was reasonably good, but he was far too static at corners and - as with a succession of keepers we've had - he left defenders wondering what the hell he was or wasn't going to do. Most of this team may as well be mute.

I've harped about this over and over again. My last tirade against Klopp was partly because that joke of a defensive midfielder is still getting time on the pitch.

Moreno had a shocker, but come on guys, the entire team was shite, we had no way to deal with their pressure, we only contained it after two goals, then when we had the chances to win the game we threw them away. Moreno gave away a penalty and was responsible for the first goal, but he was clearly targeted, and he also prevented a certain goal with a header. The biggest problem for me here isn't Moreno, it's the way we just handed over control of the game to Sevilla with barely a fight. We were spineless.

Mute, blind, deaf and dumb.

It might be overly simplistic to say it, but these players are just a spineless gang of cowards. The minute the going gets tough, they shit themselves. There's not one of this lot that I'd want to see next to me in the trenches. Not one.

Again, maybe overly simplistic, and I'm sure it's been done to death, but we miss the likes of (in my lifetime) Gerrard, Carragher, Suarez, Mascherano, Hyypia, even Alonso, who would not put up with these spineless wimps and would give them a kick up the arse.

Absolute cowards, the lot of them. We won't win a thing with this lot.

Crystal Palace all over again, sadly, when Gerrard was still there. There's something really rotten about some of these players. And of course now, even if we get to three up, all teams can think, 'We just need a breather, then come out aggressively and they'll start panicking'. It'll take a long time, and a lot of money, to fix.

This team has no spine. It starts with Henderson and the centrebacks. There is enough talent in other positions to win things - But not when other teams can control the centre of the park so thoroughly and slice through the middle so effortlessly.

And I had a sad fucking laugh when the commentators said "Liverpool fans won't believe this" after Sevilla equalised. Are you kidding me? This was exactly what I expected from about minute 48.

It's all about Moreno. His mindless blundering around in defence cost us their first two goals and de-stabilised the rest of the defence, This is not the first time this has happened. Liverpool were coasting in the 2016 Europa League Final when Moreno blundered and exactly the same kind of collapse happened, Sevilla running out 3-1 winners.

Moreno was shite yes and he completely collapsed under pressure but at the start of the second half there was another problem. We were effectively playing with 3 or 4 people ahead of the ball when they were in possession.

The 4 we wanted to see together weren't pressing and they weren't helping at all. They're attacking players but any pragmatic manager in a crucial away European fixture when we're in the lead would get everyone behind the ball and steady the ship. It didn't happen.

Wijnaldum got an assist didn't he? Stats can be a load of shit.
I think it was judged as a missed attempt on goal and not a pass. But yeah he got an assist. Doesn't absolve him from that horror show in midfield though.
