One paper gave them all 0s ...

The front pages in the Brazilian newspapers were horrific ...
You kind of expected that, no?

I usually love Brazil but this was probably the first time I didn't support them in WC.
I just hated Scolaris squad.
The two defenders from Athletico should have been there, Fernandinho and Felipe Luis.
Kaka should have been picked just for his experience, he's been their poster boy for 10 years now, last world cup winner in contention.
Coutinho and Moura as I've mentioned before.
Actually our own Lucas as well.

Where are all the Brazilian strikers? Surely a Pato or Damiao couldn't be any worse than Jo or Fred ?

Yeah they did great...

Yes, that is precisely the reason Brazil screwed up. Because the 3 DMs picked ahead of Lucas were the reason Brazil lost. If only Scolari knew how valuable our Lucas was, the team would have beaten the Germans!

Pato may be finished ... They really needed Costa - and he wouldn't have done them much good considering his health. To be honest though, they should have picked Lucas to play up front.

They did kind of suck though

Before the match, William Hill texted me an offer of Germany to win and both teams to score, at 11/2. I put a tenner on it.
By the time Oscar scored the late consolation goal, I had completely forgotten about the bet. How delighted I would have been if I had remembered it!

😀

Nice one. Seems like shit odds though.

And yeah, that squad was all wrong. David Luiz should never start at centre back. Miranda and Felipe Luis should have gone. Maicon? Thought he died of old age a while ago. Coutinho should've been there, and the strikers are a farce. Surely there are better Brazilian strikers than those two crocks of shite?!

An honourable mention to Bernard. He's shite. Thought he was the next big thing?

RIP Brazilian football.

Still cannot get over this result despite expecting something like this at some stage. What a terrible, under-talented squad to select and put out when you BRAZIL are hosting the tournament.

I agree with the lads having a go at the Brazil squad. It would have been silly not to play Felipe Luis but not to even bring him was just ridiculous. He was probably the best LB in the world last season. Miranda didn't even make the squad either which was odd.

I would have played Fernandinho from the off instead of Paulinho. Fernandinho had a poor game last night but so did everyone. There is nothing wrong with a DM pairing of Fernandinho and Gustavo, both are very good players. The attacking talent they surrounded them with wasn't good enough. Neymar papered over the cracks but Hulk, Bernard and Fred and passengers. Coutinho and Moura had to make the squad and should have gotten some playing time. Then you have the David Luiz conundrum. Jekyll and Hyde. From hero to zero in the space of one game.

Some of their fans were very myopic. That's why the defeat hit a lot of them soooo hard. I felt sorry for them though, no one deserves a beating like that on their home soil. 7-1, Christ.

You are right - but there is a strong part of me that believes that the entire coaching staff of Brazil have not done their research or are just plain lazy fuckers. There is a big problem they have in that certain quality players when leaving Brazil get lost - and they are no longer on the radar of the national team or in the minds of the Brazil public. So the players you mention may not even of had a look in and I even doubt if Phil knew who the fuck Coutinho is. That team looked like an assortment of players from the top leagues in Europe (and top teams), who have been getting regular CL footy etc. It is quite unbelievable that Fred started all the games - shocking.

Scolari knows who Coutinho is mate. He was probably 50/50 on making the squad.

Surely they had other strikers to use? Fred and Jo as his main striking options? Things were so bad up front he could have gotten away with bringing Wagner fucking Love.

Where is Ganzo these days?

I think the bigger problem that they need to deal with are the players being sold to Europe at a very young age and then becoming - well...what we saw this time round. I honestly think they did not do their proper analysis - and even if they did, they probably would only chose the ones they like out of loyalty rather than talent.

I'm glad Coutinho didn't figure in the World Cup. Players who do often follow it up with a below-par domestic season.

So instead, he preceded it with one. Well, the latter part. He needs to show consistency this season - better stamina, better performances against the top clubs, much better shooting and faster starts to games.

Coutinho does seem to have a problem with his stamina. It was quite rare for him to play the full 90 minutes in any game last season - Rodgers would usually substitute him around 20 minutes from the end.

Coutinho needs a great season because the competition for places will be fierce and only the strong will survive.
