I've hated this huge rise in transfer valuations of players where they can now top £100m. The players we're being linked with are quoted to be in the £40-£50m bracket. Seriously, how big would the transfer kitty need to be to address the concerns of the current team? Moreover, these players come with huge pay demands which fans will in part have to pay with even higher ticket prices.
If the Leicester's and Southampton of this world can find great player's for under £20m there's no reason why we can't? The club must think about completely overhauling the scouting network, install a more competent chief scout possibly raid Southampton for thiers.

.. and then hire me.

If they can afford it that is.

*Looking for at least £750 a week including free meals and souvenirs.

Oh and a 1% sell-on/sign-on fee.

For every Lallana Southampton unearth, hey probably have a couple that don't work out. Without wanting to be disrespectful to the Saints, they can afford to take such risks as they're safely mid table every season. We're pushing for the title (or were) and so need as close to guaranteed performers as possible.
But I do agree that our scouting network needs to be looked at.

They find plenty of shite players for under £20m too.

Because those same scouts also signed Joseph Dodoo, Yohan Benaouane, Ritchi De Laet, Robert Paratore, Florin Gardos, Vegard Foren, Emmanuel Mayuka and Paolo Gazzaniga.

Fancy signing any of that lot?

Thought not.

Yeah, Southampton of late, & others in the past, including Everton, have often been lauded as this great model to follow.

The truth is that the bar to play in their first team is lower to begin with, which makes them more attractive to those players who may be about to break through to the big team than a side like ours where they won't play for the first team.

It also means that they can afford to take a chance & play players for half a season or so & see if they develop, because their aspirations are lower.

And, no one remembers their failures, of which there are many.

Their backroom staff won't necessarily transplant well either. We signed their head of youth development Malcolm Elias some time back. He's at Fulham now.

I am sure i don't have to list our failures and the cost of those failures.
