I think he'd be perfect for us.....we've all been crying out for a back up striker since Fernandos injuries and for 6 million we know Saviola can get goals, he's played on the left of a front 3 at Barca before aswell so it shouldnt be a problem for him to go out wide.

But did a retard write the article??

Translated from Spanish.

Yes yes yes just the player we need to turn those home draws into wins next season.

I would love him at Liverpool.

I think it would be a decent bit of business, might work , might not, but what can you get for £5m these days - not a lot

Anyone who wears Maschers undies is OK with me

regards

not what we need. yossi can cover the 'gerrard' role and savi is too lightweight to cover for torres. be a complete waste of 5 million

The only time I've heard him mentioned since the last World Cup is when being linked with a move (usually to us). He can't be all that.

Ha ha - I didn't think anyone was going to comment on that line - it cracked me up, Babelfish rules.

Decent player but if we're looking in the bargain basement for cheap strikers then i'd rather bring Owen back.

He's been floating around on the cheap for years now, you kinda have to question why no one's snapping him up, is there something we don't know about him?

Otherwise at £6million he could provide some good options for us, well worth it.

So does Paul Scholes.

I don't think there's anything mysterious about Saviola's constant movement to different clubs. He's too good for the likes of Monaco, but not quite good enough for the top sides.

I may be way off, but I remember hearing something about him falling out with the Barca management over his wages (80K?).

He then signed with Real on a free and the only reason for that must surely be that they were offering him higher wages than other clubs as he would've known he'd barely get a game there.

Strange career he's had.

Liverpool Set To Land Javier Saviola - Report

Javier Saviola's time at Real Madrid could be drawing to a close with Liverpool set to offer him a way out...

14 Jun 2009 10:21:49

Liverpool hope to be able to wrap up a deal that will see them rescue Javier Saviola from Real Madrid, after the two clubs agreed a fee for the Argentinian striker, according to reports.

Rafa Benitez believes that the 27-year-old could resurrect his career at Anfield by pairing up with Fernando Torres and the Merseyside outfit have held negotiations with Los Merengues.

A deal worth around £5 million (€6m) is believed to have been settled upon, media in Spain and England claim, and an official announcement could be made later this week.

Saviola has had few chances to impress during his two-year stint at the Santiango Bernabeu, after joining the club on a free transfer from Barcelona, and has been told he can leave this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival has already signalled that he would be shunted even further down the pecking order as the Portuguese star has registered the trademark CR9, Saviola's current shirt number.

Early reports suggested that any deal would include Xabi Alonso, but it is now believed that the clubs are making the transfer of the goalscorer a separate issue.

Benitez is confident that he can draw the best out of the player that was once tipped to be the best young striker in Argentina when he was impressing with River Plate.

Even in his first few seasons at Barcelona, Saviola stood out and scored regularly for the Catalan side before being pushed down the pecking order and eventually loaned out to Monaco and Sevilla.

Imagine being little Javier and knowing the player who is replacing you is worth 20 of you. Poor cunt

so we're buying 5 million pound players now before we secure whoever our no1 targets are. well at least i hope saviola isn't one of our no 1 targets this summer and i also hope that we don't end up being 5 million short when it really matters.

I think a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush in this window. If true, it is a good safety net for £5m, and the sort of player who can come off the bench and change games.

Unless he's suddenly turned shite, I honestly think Saviola's a player that will be even better than that. He's got the talent to win games for us and allow Rafa the option of bringing Gerrard into the midfield should one of Xabi or Mascher get injured, with the peace of mind that Saviola can play at a very high level behind Torres. Now when Torres is injured, I'm pretty certain Saviola isn't the guy that can replace him.

I agree, I was not particularly saying he would only be good enough for the bench, in an ideal scenario we will bring in another top class striker as well, but as all the Villas, Tevez's , Eto'o's are all going to get snapped up by clubs waving wads of money (although I have not given up on the notion of Tevez yet, despite the City links), Saviola is a good plan B

Agreed, but will he be a good plan B if Torres is injured. He's not a target man.

I agree Vlad. As I always say, a hand in your birds bush is worth two.

Yup Not bad at 6 million euros. Considering Frazier Campbell cost 6 million pounds.

Benitez will probably play him on the left or right. How will he perform out of position?

He is a good little player though.

might as well sell yossi then. yossi's best position is the gerrard role and if saviola plays there occasionally i see less pitch time for yossi.

I'd rather keep Yossi and not buy Saviola - at least Yossi's already adapted to the PL.

I know he's still a bit of a name, but does no-one think 6M is a lot for him?

This is a guy that has only started 10 games for them over two seasons. At Real he's not rated, not wanted and probably on big wages too.

3M Euros (4M at most) sounds about right to me.
