I wish I could agree, but that sounds to me like he's putting the best spin he can on the fact that nothing much has actually changed, not yet anyway.

I guess anything is possible tbh..
im hoping he’s staying but who knows, and there does have to be a limit …
maybe we will find out soon ..I was hoping all the shenanigans at internationals had instigated Mo to realise he wants to stay and to make a decision …

Agree with that, hence my saying "not yet anyway". I'm sure Mo realises the setup here suits him in a way that few others would, perhaps none at all. What needs to happen now is for him to follow his heart, which I'd lay odds would cause him to sign.

This isn't particularly aimed at Salah, but how much money do elite footballers actually need? Does an extra 100k or an extra few million sign on fee actually matter when you're a xmulti millionaire?

Yeah, it probably does. Nobody wants to feel like they're getting screwed over compared to their peers.

And anyways, it's all relative, isn't it...

Someone who lives on 20K a year likely has similar'ish views on those who earn 80K a year.

If you could squeeze an extra 5 million a year from a job you know you'll be out of within the next 5-6 years, I think you'd do it no matter who you are.

Part of it it status. They all spout shit like thinking of the fans but aren’t arsed that they’re the ones fleecing them at every opportunity.

Not to disagree directly but, if you're already a millionaire numerous times over and would have to leave the best employer you ever had in order to trouser that extra 5 mill, might you not think twice about it? I know I would.

It’s not a one way street with fan’s either.
Fans are just as quick to turn on a underperforming player or fancies a change of scenery and expect undying loyalty from the player especially when born thousands of miles away.

I think there’s a good point about salary, I think a lot elite player’s see the salary as a score card versus other players on the same level.

There was always that story from Scottie Pippen who won everything with MJ over 10 yrs but still felt cheated by the club as he signed a five year deal with 18$ million and was regarded as one of the worst deals in sports history based on what he should have been on.

In that scenario I honestly don't think I would.

Yeah Auba is a good example of that at Arsenal. Looked the bees bollocks scoring for fun, gets a massive pay rise and turns to shit. Fans instantly on his back

It's a difficult one. A player has to feel valued. And if the going rate is 400k and you're offering 300k he's going to feel undervalued and unhappy. It's not so much about how much he has in the bank or how much is enough (once you reach a certain salary level).

Any player on an annual £1m and up (for a decade) are going to be very comfortable for the rest of their (and their family's) lives if they invest wisely and don't descend into drink, drugs or gambling addiction (or multiple wives) !

WT actual F has it got to do with Ashraf ******* Sobhi?
This guy has been anti-Liverpool for a while. Maybe we upset him with comments on availability or something akin. Or maybe he's a Barca/Real fan because that's the move he was advocating if I remember correctly.

Gotcha.

Re your previous post: how does one define "going rate" in this context? Is it what an envelope-pushing agent thinks he can get away with?

Part of the issue is Man United being largely incompetent and inflating the market by paying insane wages to the likes of Sancho, and then you've got what PSG are offering Mbappe, etc. City are paying KDB is currently on £400k, Sterling and Grealish on £300k. United paying Sancho on £350k, De Gea 375k a week, Ronaldo £510k a week.

I'd say between £400k p/w seems to be in the right ball-park for Salah if we wanted to extend. We cannot get too far away from that if we want to keep our elite players.

The question is whether they become largely over-valued at this price. Bear in mind that Diaz is on around £90k a week and has been out performing Salah in recent weeks, but the risk is he hasn't ever produced the numbers of Salah.

Well that may be one definition but I'd go with ballpark whatever other top rated players are getting (from Germany to Spain to the PL). There'll be a range but if the offer is in that range it should be considered fair. You can make a good case if he's offered something close to others with the exception of Oil Co. salaries considered outliers. I say this with absolutely no idea what other top players at other PL clubs or the BL/La Liga etc. are earning.
