Salah-ng, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye

£60m+ and then add on the agents fees. If true then that’s a chunk out of any transfer kitty.

If we sort Mane too then I suspect the Fulham lad may be our only new face in the summer

We already spent our summer money on Diaz.

I don’t think we’ll be making too many signings, but it depends if any of the squad players want or agitate for a move - I’m thinking Ox, Gomez, Kieta, Jones, Neco, plus the likes of Nate, Davies & Woodburn - wouldn’t expect all to go, but a couple for sure.

Also - If Adrian & Origi are out of contract, they’ll probably need to be replaced.

I could see a couple of low level signings, but nothing too exciting.

I’m ok with that.

Maybe I am mistaken, but there seems to be a renewed focus on talented youth, particularly those who are running their contracts down - Carvalho, Doak. Maybe we will see a couple of more signings in that space and the squad will be padded up with those signings plus Elliott, Kelleher, Brazilian youth goalkeeper, etc. I can see someone like Carvalho taking Ox's place in the squad.

There will be some signings this summer. The club is in a great position financially and the 21/22 season could see us break a record turnover. All points to money getting spent.

I think you’re entirely right and I’d add that it’s partly why we seem unconcerned with letting players run down their contracts and leave in free transfers - if we have the talent already coming through the youth teams, then we don’t need the additional money sales would bring for new transfer fees.

I'm hoping we may see one big incoming, it all depends on whether Mane or Salah goes in the summer. I don't think we'll keep both for next year.

Obviously one commands a higher fee than the other, so will have a knock on impact to the player we bring in.

I think it'll be a midfielder we target in the summer. As we've already pretty much locked down Carvalho.

Sorry Hansern but the only person I trust on this site re finances is @Beamrider . Everyone else seems to be either boom or bust.

Good call. Beamrider did post the Swiss Ramble tweets and I think the comment about a potential record turnover was mentioned there.

The key thing I keep raising is that regardless of our turnover, we’ve got a big capital spend on the Anfield Road to fund and it doesn’t look like we’re getting extra bank funding to pay for it, so a large chunk of our cash profit will go into paying for that. I think our ability to do BIG deals will hinge on money raised from success on the field and/or player sales. I do think we’ll spend in summer, but having brought the Diaz deal forward to January, and with instalments still to pay on the deals for Jota, Thiago, Konate and Diaz (and with not much coming in from sales) it doesn’t follow for me that we’ll break the bank. As always, I’ll be happy to be wrong.
I’m sure Tielemans at £25m, if true, will be a very attractive deal and if we do that one then it maybe releases a bit more cash to do a bigger deal somewhere else on the pitch.

One further point to add is that when the Anfield Road is paid for, and generating extra revenue, it does free up more cash for transfers / wages from then on, so a big spend in Summer 2023 would be on the cards. If the players we want long-term become available before that then it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we could manipulate our bank borrowings to bring them forward to this summer, but that would then mean a lean couple of years after that (which mirrors the pattern we saw a couple of years ago). That would make it a difficult sell to Klopp’s successor to come in with limited cash to spend on shaping the squad in his image, but that’s two years away and a lot can happen between now and then.

Also depends whether Klopp can be persuaded to extend. Or if we promote from within too (Pep).

Agreed. And if Lijnders is the succession plan then you’d expect he’d be on board with and involved in any transfer decisions between now and then.

Well since we'll have renewed everyone's contract by then a new manager wouldn't get a choice : "do you want this PL+CL winning squad or not"?

With how completely average hes been recently, £400k+ feels a bit bad value.

Think his bad form has played to our advantage. Mo probably felt it best not to take anything for granted. That and Ramadan is the time to reflect on your life and not be a greedy ass

They can be intimidated too. "What is your plan for improving the squad which has won the quadruple three years in a row"?

Thank god for Ramadan eh

It's probably tiredness. People seem to forget about how much football him and Mane have played this season, they are both going to have purple patches and barren spells. Jota has just got over a quiet spell having returned from injury and then he scores that goal on Saturday, so he will probably go on a run now while the others work their way back to some consistency.

Bad spell at the minute where our goal average in general has dropped. But City aren't smashing teams every week either, this is the point where we are both playing too many games and many of them we are just seeing out, but we have the squad to do that now. Once the big games start to come along we'll up our game. But there's definitely a few tired legs out there at the minute and everyone will need a game on the bench or an early hook, and everyone (including Salah) will have to get used to it and not take it as a personal assault on their own individual record goals.

As for his wage, I doubt we are paying him that, it will be a structured deal with a few incentives thrown in.

That and they put 2-3 players on him all the time. He has to work twice as hard to create something than other players. We need him just for the fear and panic he brings out in defenders.

There’s another fucking afcon next year isn’t there? Mane is going to be ruined

It's being played during the summer. So, I guess it's going to be up to us to make sure he gets a few weeks off when he returns.
Honestly, he should just skip it. I mean, they've won it now.

he’s at the World Cup too this winter isn’t he though? That’s horrendous

Mane form has been pretty poor since Afcons too, his form worries more at present as I think Salah will recover his as he did last year but not sure if tomorrow is the right time to rest him but could do with one. Would be good to get the contract sorted thought and his future settled. He will have the summer and Dec to rest this year without having to play 120 mins of donkey football under Quiroz.
At least regarding Mane, we have Diaz ready on the left though…
