Last night settled it for me - he's done with us. The talent is there but he's just not going to make it with us and I'm officially off the Ryan Babel bandwagon. I still think he can be a success elsewhere but it's time to cut our losses and sell him ... Hopefully someone will give us 5 million ...

Pity ... I had such high hopes for him -

Is this Rafa's biggest dud, considering the cost and excitement due to the signing?

Last night has to be the final straw......I think we could see the back of him in January, with the world cup around the corner he'll want first team football and he's not gonna get it from Rafa. Maybe back to Ajax might be his best chance of going to South Africa.....and we could take Luis Suarez in return ;D

Funnily enough I came to the same point with him at the same ground last year when we played them in the league. I've never seen such a poor performance from a Sub in my life, and I guess you see a bit more off the ball when you're there. He literally avoided the ball. He was so poor. I slate other players for poor but no one infuriates me more than Babel (and Voronin) because I can't stand players with no heart. Show some pride in wearing the Liverpool shirt and have a little desire. I'm sick of believing in Babel, he can have all the attributes in the world but without a bit of heart, he's never gonna make it.

I don't even think the talent is there, unless you conclude that having pace and occasionally being able to crack a shot is going to prove good enough under the right manager.

Last night just summed his deficiencies up entirely. Positive runs that you just knew were going to amount to nothing. He ran blindly into groups of players, instead of slowing down the play when he realised there was nothing on, or releasing the ball when gaps emerged. It was just brainless.

There's only so much you can do for players, but he lacks intelligence and couple that with a severe lack of confidence and composure, what can you do?

Whatever his initial showings suggested, he's amounted to nothing more than a player much in the Cisse mould (though even less consistent), reliant on space to run into without any real control, that's been proven time and time again by his success mostly being dependant on playing against tired legs when games are stretched.

I know I'll probably get a fair amount of flack for that from the lads who've defended him on here, but I can't see how much longer blame can be afforded by the usual reasons given.

Nabil El Zhar...hull at anfield in the 2-2 last season was pretty pathetic!

I've pretty much given up on him now N'gog's looking the business upfront.

I thought being Torres reserve striker might suit him better but he's nowhere near good enough for us.

I am no longer a member of the babel fan club, as soon we get an offer of a loan or a sale we should get rid. babel needs to move on to save his career, it isn't going to happen for him here.

Can't remember it, but did he try to aviod the ball?

The worst thing about it was with Babel there was a sense of expectation. I was sitting with the Arsenal fans and as soon as they saw him warming up they started bricking themselves. What a let down he's been.

And his stupid raps and twitter page haven't helped to curb this idea of him being some superstar in his own mind who hasn't got the ability to live up to it on the pitch.

Ah it seems like only yesterday - probably because it nearly was - when your "FUCK YOU BABEL HATERS" posts littered the forum.

Glad to see you've seen sense.

hey, I'm still going to do that if he scores or assists 😉

Glad that we won't have all those posts about Babel being better than Kuyt, and Rafa being an ass for putting Dirk in before Ryan.

He's fucking shite. The only thing that still suprises me about him is that people still think he'll make it elsewhere. Like Rafa is holding him back and when he leaves hes going to display all this natural skill that he isnt allowed to show at Anfield.
He's a guttless fucking chancer and im ashamed to have him at our club. Fuck Ryan fucking Babel.

a bit of a case of harsh but fair there but the highlighted part is spot on. He is an extraordinarily cowardly player

it's a disgrace the amount we paid for him
it was 11 million. a gamble but we are going to have to take similar gmbles because its unlikely we'll be able to afford the finished article unless said players is coming to the end of their career.

In hindsight, yes. But I don't think many were doubting it at the time. I think it was probably worth the risk given his obvious raw talents and how good he could have been. Just unfortunate it hasn't worked out. I'm sure we'll get half our money back anyway, at least.

Yep, hindsight is wonderful, but he was a highly rated youngster, not that there weren't a few misgivings knocking about, but still... You win some, you lose some. United's Anderson/Nani failings are an example of that.
Mate i watched him live for the third time last night and once again witnessed him shit it out of every 50/50 pretend to jump for the ball in the air, fall over at the whiff of a challenge and generally hide whenever he could. I dont rate Voronin but hes got 5 times the character, bottle, heart, desire and passion of this fucking plank.

I confident we'll get £5-6M for him
My friend borat here is right.

I am stunned to think that an attacking talent from the famous Ajax academy could be such a poor "footballer". He looks like a product from the Yeovil Town academy, than Ajax.

Slightly off your main point, but let me just comment that Voronin's passion and desire are for Voronin and not for the club. The way he lost the ball for the goal and then turned on at other players faulting them for his own mistake was just pathetic.
I do share yuor disappointment from Babel, though.

fair enough! Why tho is what i don't get with babel? is he just here for a free ride as that's what it seems on face value?

I thought Voronin was SHIIIIITE first half yesterday but determined and useful second half.

Babel also ran his socks off and tried to do stuff and if he had had any fucking luck at all could easily have had 2 goals....

I'm happy to slate either of them but not for yesterdays efforts...

I still think we played pretty well yesterday.

Whats more getting on the bit part players backs wont help in the long run either, a number of those players may well be required during the season should things go badly, i'm certainly not holding my breath for any reinforcements anyway...

if they had played shite and not tried by all means slate them but imho that was not the case for any of our players last night.

I agree re Voronin's game of 2 halves. I thought he was one of our better players all in all last night. I just think that he's too concentrated in himself, and the passion attributed to him by Once is more for Voronin himself than it is for the club (it may be true for most players, but I think it's so obvious with Voronin).

With great expectation comes great disappointment. That's the Ryan Babel story. It curtains for his Liverpool career. Hope we at least recoup some cash.

I must be one of the few who still thinks he could turn it around, if not at Liverpool then elsewhere.

He definitely doesn't seem to be the type of player that Rafa or our fans really enjoy seeing though so there seems little point in hanging on to him.
