Loads of rumours doing the rounds that a deal has apperantly been agreed.

Don't know what to make of it really. Not my first choice tbh.

I can see Woy being decidedly average, nothing more.

^^

Probably a rolling contract, 12 or 24 months makes sense.

Will Woy be able to convince Gerrard and Torres to stay though?!

He's one of my top choices, but I'm not expecting the miracles he achieved at Fulham.

We need someone to spark new life in the squad, work on a budget and make the sensible, logical decisions.

Roy will do all of the above. And if we get a bit of luck with injuries then we could bounce back up to the CL places.

He's signed Senderos for Fulham today. I doubt they'd be sanctioning his deals if he's told them he's off already.

Dalglish had been spending Rafa's money for months.

Besides, he might be a replacement for Hangeland when he brings him to us 😉

Out of those on whom the bookies are currently offering odds, I suppose I marginally prefer Hodgson, but I don't actually want any of them. Get the King in to mind the shop while we sort out who it is we REALLY want, then go for him.

It's not a particularly exciting appointment, but I guess it was unrealistic to expect anything else. I'd like to think things can't get worse than 7th, but who knows these days...

If this is true safe to say the whole middle eastern investment thing is total
BS
[/quote] oh bugger...

I've no doubt that he'd do a good job, and he's probably the best possible manager to fullfill the potential of certain players i e Babel.

But, I'm also hoping this isn't true. As I want a more high profile manager. Still, every one of those knows fuck all about the Premier League. Woy has the experience.

Not sure the investment argument follows. If the King doesn't want the job even temporarily, as some have suggested, we'd need somebody to do it at least until new owners do come in.

It is probably BS, it usually is - but how does this prove it?

A) The potential new owners might have just wanted Rafa out to avoid his politicking and under-performance, trusting the current set up to appoint someone on a short term deal, which is what any offer will be anyway.

B) They might actually want Hodgeson. Fancy name or not, he does tick a lot of boxes.

Not sure about B to be honest, but defo agree with A.

I'd take him over alot of the options, it's a stable, short term option.

Obviously there will come a point, hopefully sooner rather than later where we look at the longterm, but in the meantime we need someone who will get back to basics with us and instil some belief and make us a team again.

Squiggles- if they were appointing on a temp basis which based on what has been said about the investments would be no more than two months, why would Hogdson leave a safe job to do one with such a limited future.

Ad for him being their first choice, I have my doubts, plus if our prospects were so bright with ours stars staying, debts written off, new stadium, money to spend, we'd have our pick of managers, I don't think we'd be chosing Hodgson.

That's a fair point, I think if this is true it does suggest that a solution isn't exactly around the corner.

I suspect it'll take rather longer than two months to sort things out, and Hodgson might be up for one last hurrah at a really big club given his age.

Or conversely, if the whole Middle Eastern investment thing is true then this is total BS. Glass half full and all that.

Which exciting managerial appointment will our new owners be making then?

I'm a bit confused as to who they would want? There isn't many out there, besides Capello.

Which is largely why we're looking at more low key managers anyway.

What other managers are there though? Even if we're sold in the next few months;

Van Gaal: Been at Bayern for a year. Money no problem, Ribery staying, CL success. Nope.

Mourinho: Signed for Real

Hiddink: Signed for Turkey

Lippi: Apperantly not interested

If the best and most high profiled managers aren't availeble, then Roy is a good appointment. I don't think a potential new owner would mind Roy for 12-24 months. Bearing in mind he has success.

I don't think he's appointment would mean anything regarding a new owner.
